Golden Arrow Frame-Buggy Radio Controlled Off-Road Racing Car
(600-4080) Batteries Faxback Doc. # 41721
Installing The Batteries
Transmitter Batteries
The transmitter is powered by 6 AA alkaline batteries (such as Cat. No. 23-
552). Do not use general purpose batteries. To install the batteries:
1. Set the transmitters' POWER switch to OFF.
2. Slide off the battery compartment cover in the direction of the arrows.
3. Install 6 AA batteries, observing the polarity (+ and -) marked in the
compartment.
NOTES: When operation becomes erratic and/or the range decreases, replace
all 6 batteries. Never mix weak and new batteries.
If you do not plan to use the transmitter for a week or more,
remove and store the batteries.
Receiver Batteries
The racer uses 4 AA alkaline batteries to power the receiver. Do not use
general purpose batteries.
1. Set the racer's ON/OFF switch to OFF.
2. On the bottom of the racer, lift the battery compartment latch, and
slide the battery compartment cover toward the rear of the racer. Then,
lift the cover and fold it toward the back of the racer.
3. Install 4 AA batteries, observing the polarity (+ and -) marked in the
compartment, and replace the battery compartment cover.
NOTES: If the battery compartment tends to open when you drive the racer
on rough terrain, bend the latch to hold the cover more securely.
When operation becomes erratic and/or the range decreases, replace
all four batteries. Never mix weak and new batteries.
If you do not plan to use the racer for a week or more, remove and
store the batteries.
Motor Battery Pack
A special rechargeable battery pack (Cat. No. 23-230, not included) powers
the motor. Before you use the battery pack, charge it as follows, using a
special battery charger (Cat. No. 23-231, not included).
If you want to run your racer for extended periods of time, we suggest that
you buy extra battery packs. You can charge one while you use the other.
1. Attach the battery pack's white plastic connector to the charger's
matching connector. Do not force them together. They go together in
only one way.
2. Plug the charger into a standard AC outlet.
3. Let the battery charge for 4 to 5 hours.
CAUTION: When charging is complete, unplug the charger from the AC
outlet first. Then, disconnect the battery pack from the
charger as described in the next step.
4. Press the latch lever on the charger's connector and grasp the battery
pack's connector to disconnect the two units - NEVER pull on the wires.
Charging Safety Hints
Don't charge a battery pack immediately after use (while it is still hot).
Allow it to cool first.
You can over-charge the battery pack on charge all the time. The battery
can forget how much power it has to deliver if you do. Use the battery pack
until you notice it is definitely weak. Then, charge it fully (4 or 5
hours) and disconnect it from the charger.
Use only the suggested battery pack and charger.
Do not use the battery charger in wet or hot areas.
Do not charge the battery pack while it is in the racer.
Use the charger in areas where there is free air flow. The charger and
battery produce heat during charging.
Do not use the charger as a direct power source for any device.
Installing the Battery Pack
When the battery is fully charged, Install it in the racer as follows:
1. Set the racer's ON/OFF switch to OFF.
2. Press the latch lever on the charger's connector and grasp the battery
pack's connector to disconnect the two units - NEVER pull on the wires.
3. On the bottom of the racer, lift the battery compartment latch, and
slide the battery compartment cover toward the rear of the racer. Then,
lift the cover and fold it toward the back of the racer.
4. Place the battery pack between the receiver battery compartment and the
rear of the racer. The battery pack's connector must be on the same
side as the racer's matching connector.
Be sure the receiver batteries are not loosened while you install the
motor battery pack.
5. Route the battery pack's connector through the racer's frame and attach
it to the racer's connector. Be sure the wires do not touch the rear
tires.
6. Replace the battery compartment cover.
NOTES: Be sure that the connectors match properly. They go together
easily in only one way.
When the racer begins to lose power (it doesn't climb hills or
doesn't run on soft or rough terrain as well as usual), recharge
the battery as described earlier.
