PLAYING THE GAME

1. Press ON.OFF to turn on the game. The Gin Rummy game continues any game
    in progress.

NOTE: Press NEW GAME to start a new game.

2. Press LEVEL to select the level of difficulty. Level 1 is for the
beginner; Level II is for the intermediate player; and Level III is for
    the advanced player only.

3. Press START/ENTER to start the game. The Gin Rummy game shuffles and
deals the first hand of the game. SHUFFLE appears.

Both players receive 10 cards, but you only see your own hand. The next
card is dealt face up to begin the discard pile, and the rest of the
cards are placed face down in the stockpile.

NOTES: If the upcard is a spade (SYMBOL), DOUBLE SCORING appears
throughout the game and the winner's points will automatically
            double.

The number below the stockpile shows how many cards are left in
            the pile.

PLAYER flashes on the display, indicating it is your turn to draw.

4. Press UPCARD if you want to take this first card, or press STOCK/PASS
if you want to pass it to the computer.

If you choose to pass, PASS appears and COMPUTER flashes on the display,
and the computer can draw the upcard or a card from the stockpile. It
then discards a card from its hand and the card appears on the discard
    pile.

5. Press STOCK/PASS to draw a card from the stockpile, or press UPCARD to
draw the top card from the discard pile. The card that you have drawn
flashes in an area called the buffer.

If you want to add the card in the buffer to your hand, you must swap
it with another card in your hand. To swap, press SELECT. (SYMBOL)
appears, and the card and SELECT flash on the display.

6. Press the up, down, left, or right buttons to move the card you want to
swap into the buffer. Press SELECT again. The cards swap places.

into sets, to allow you to keep better track of them.

If you want to cancel the swap, press CANCEL.

7. When you are satisfied with your hand, you must discard the card in the
buffer. Press the up, down, left, or right buttons to move to the
buffer. The card in the buffer flashes. Press DISCARD/LAYOFF to discard.
The card you discarded becomes the upcard on the discard pile, then the
computer chooses whether to draw it or not.

NOTE: The card to be discarded must be flashing in order to move it to the
       discard pile.

CALLING KNOCK OR GIN

When you Knock

You can knock if your unmatched cards total less than 10 points.

1. If you want to Knock, press KNOCK/GIN. KNOCK, GIN, SELECT, and PLAYER
    flash on display.

NOTE: If you press KNOCK/GIN, and your total unmatched points are

4. Repeat Steps 2-3 for each matched set. When all the sets are matched,
press START/ENTER again. All remaining unmatched cards are counted as
points, and KNOCK appears on the display.

You now see the computer arrange its matched sets. It can lay off its
unmatched cards in your hand. For example, if you have a set of 3, 4, and
5 and the computer has an unmatched 6, it can add that 6 to your set and
avoid having those 6 points counted in its total points.

NOTE: If the computer reduces its point total low enough to undercut you,
it wins the Knock and UNDERCUT appears on the display.
