PAC-MAN
(600-2665) Game Information Faxback Doc. # 35061
OBJECT OF THE GAME
Pac-Man is in a maze, shown on the map next to the score panel. The
flashing square shows Pac-Man's current location in the maze. When Pac-Man
has gobbled up all the dots in a square, that square becomes blank.
This game has six skill levels. When Pac-Man gobbles up all the dots in the
maze, you advance to the next level. When you reach Level 6, you remain
there until the game is over.
There are four ghosts chasing Pac-Man. To chomp the ghosts, Pac-Man must
first eat a power pill. After Pac-Man eats a power pill POWER appears at
the top of the display and Pac-Man can chase the ghosts. At each higher
skill level the ghosts move faster and Pac-Man has one more second to chase
the ghosts. At L-1, Pac-Man has 10 seconds; at L-2 11 seconds; and so on,
until at L-6, Pac Man has 15 seconds. Three seconds before the power pill
wears off, POWER flashes to warn you it's time to stop chasing ghosts.
To earn points, guide Pac-Man to gobble up all the dots. When Pac-Man has
eaten 80 dots, a cherry appears. Gobble it up to earn bonus points.
Before you start play, three (SYMBOL) appear on the display. If a ghost
catches Pac-Man, a (SYMBOL) disappears from the display. If all three
(SYMBOL) disappear, the game is over and GAME OVER appears. Every time you
earn 5,000 points, one extra (SYMBOL) appears, up to five.
PLAYING THE GAME
1. If the display is off, press ON/OFF to turn on the game.
2. To start a new game, press NEW GAME. L-1 appears on the top right
corner of the display.
3. Repeatedly move LEVEL upward to select the game level (from Level 1 to
Level 6).
4. Press PLAYER/CHECK to choose a one-player game (one figure appears) or
a two-player game (two figures appear). The flashing figure shows whose
turn it is.
5. Press START to start playing the game. After a few seconds, 0 appears
at the top right corner of the display and one of the squares of the
map flashes, showing Pac-Man's current location in the maze.
6. Control the joystick to move Pac-Man up, down, left or right.
NOTES: Pac-Man begins moving as soon as you push the joystick, and keeps
moving in the same direction until you change his direction or he
runs into a wall. Once Pac-Man begins moving, holding the joystick
in position does not affect his movement. For the fastest play,
always return the joystick to the center position after changing
Pac-Man's direction.
When Pac-Man moves from one screen to another wait until he appears
on the new screen before using the joystick to control him.
Between the right and left walls there is a tunnel that Pac-Man can
use to go from one side of the screen to the other.
To stop the game temporarily, press PAUSE. PAUSE! appears on the
display. Press PAUSE again to return to the game where you left
off. PAUSE! disappears.
7. The game ends when you lose all three (SYMBOL). GAME OVER appears on
the display. To start a new game after a game is over, press START. A
new game starts with a score of 0.
NOTES: In a two-player game, the second player begins his or her turn
after the first player's game is over. Press START to start the
second player's game.
To check the first player's score after both players' games are
over, press PLAYER/CHECK. SEARCH and the first player's score
appear on the display. The blinking player (1 or 2) indicates whose
score it is. Press PLAYER/CHECK again to return to the second
player's score. SEARCH disappears.
When you reach 99,990 points, the game plays the game-over melody,
WIN appears and the score resets to 0. Press START to start a new
game.
8. To stop playing, press ON/OFF or set the game aside. Within about 4
minutes, the game automatically turns off.
