Latitudes of Major Cities of the World:
Use the latitudes to perfectly set up your Cosmic Explorer. We have
selected major population centers around the globe. Look at a map to
estimate your locations' latitude by comparing it to a city given on the
list below which is on the same parallel as your location. An alternative
method is looking at a good atlas which lists latitudes of several hundred
cities. Use your Degree Scale to set up the Star Ball for some of these
major cities. A few degrees difference is NOT significant for the casual
star gazer.

Cardinal Points:
These are the four principal points of the common compass: N. E. S. W. We
also show the subcardinal points, NE, SE, SW, NW on the Horizon Ring.
These help you locate objects in the sky more easily. They are also good
reference terms if you want to describe a general location of a constel-
lation or planet. We added the degrees of azimuth for those who would
rather use numbers. Azimuth starts at the N cardinal point (360 degrees/
0 t. E is 90 degrees, W is 270 degrees, S is 180 degrees, and so on.
Azimuth is divided into 5 degrees increments.
