PRO-89 Tutorial: How to Reset and Initialize the Scanner

This tutorial covers two topics: Resetting the Scanner (if the scanner locks up and does not respond to key presses) and Initializing the Scanner (if resetting the scanner does not resolve the problem).

For additional information on this scanner, see the links below:

Reset the Scanner

Step 1: Turn the Scanner Off and On

Top of Scanner / Volume, Squelch, Headphones, Antenna

Turn the scanner off by rotating VOLUME all the way to OFF, then turn it on again.

Note: The image shows the top of the scanner with the antenna removed.

Step 2: Press the Reset Button

Pro-89 Reset Hole

Insert a pointed object such as a straightened paper clip into the Reset opening on the side of the scanner, then gently press the Reset button inside the opening.

Note: If the scanner still does not work properly, you should try Initializing the Scanner.

Initialize the Scanner

Important: This procedure clears all information you stored in the scanner's memory. Initialize the scanner only when you are sure the scanner is not working properly or when you want to quickly erase all information.

Step 1: Turn the Scanner Off and On

Top of Scanner / Volume, Squelch, Headphones, Antenna

Turn the scanner off by rotating VOLUME all the way to OFF, then turn it on again.

Step 2: Selecting Initialize Mode

Step 4: Clearing All Memory

When the display turns on again, release MON/CL. The display should show the first channel empty, as above.

Note: You must release the reset button before releasing MON/CL; otherwise the memory might not clear.
