We do not expect you to have any problems with your TRC-517, but if you 
do, the following suggestions might help.  If you still have problems, 
take the walkie talkie to your local RadioShack store for assistance.

Problem                      Solution

No power.                    Replace the battery.

                             Make sure the power switch is set to VOX
                             (voice activated), or PTT (push to talk).

Message cannot be            Make sure that the PUSH TO TALK button is 
Transmitted.                 completely pressed when you are transmitting.

                             Make sure the VOX/PTT/OFF switch is set to
                             VOX or PTT.

Reception is poor.           Certain channels will work better than others
                             in some areas.  If you are in an area of high
                             interference, switch channels to find one
                             with better transmission, reception and
                             clarity.

Limited talk range.          Talk range depends on the terrain, so hills,
                             structures, and other obstacles can affect 
                             transmission.  Radios are "line of-sight,"
                             which means you usually cannot hear
                             transmissions that are beyond the horizon.
                             Move closer and change to line-of sight open
                             terrain.

Message is not being         Make sure your radio is set to the same 
received.                    channel as those of your partners.
                                       
                             Make sure the VOX/PTT/OFF switch is set to
                             VOX or PTT.  If the VOX/PTT/OFF switch is set
                             to PTT, make sure the PUSH TO TALK button is
                             not pressed when you are trying to receive.
 
                             Adjust VOLUME if the transmission is too soft
 
                             Obstructions can affect your transmission
                             range. Move closer to the person transmitting

Heavy static.                The distance between the radios is too far.
                             Move closer to the person transmitting.
