DX-342 9-Band Portable Receiver
(200-0217) Power Options Faxback Doc. # 39590
Follow the instructions for the power option you want to use. Then go to
"Operation," Faxback Doc. # 39591.
INTERNAL BATTERY POWER
For portable operation, power the receiver from two AA batteries. For
longer life, we recommend alkaline batteries such as Radio Shack Cat. No.
23-552. Follow these steps to install batteries.
1. Open the battery compartment by pushing the cover in the direction of
the arrow.
2. Install the batteries as illustrated on the back of the receiver. Be
sure the polarity is correct as shown by the symbols (+ and -).
3. Replace the battery compartment cover.
STANDARD AC POWER
You can power the receiver from a standard AC outlet. This requires an AC
adapter. We recommend Cat. No. 273-1456.
Insert the adapter's barrel plug into the receiver's DC 3V jack. Then,
plug the adapter into a standard AC outlet. This automatically disconnects
the internal batteries.
Caution: You must use an AC adapter that supplies 3 volts and delivers at
least 2.7V but no more than 200 milliamps. Its center tip must
be set to negative and its plug must correctly fit the receiver's
DC 3V jack. Using an adapter that does not meet these
requirements could damage the receiver or the adapter.
VEHICLE BATTERY POWER
With a DC adapter such as Cat. No. 270-1560, you can operate the receiver
in a car, boat, or recreational vehicle.
Follow these steps to use vehicle battery power.
1. Attach the smallest barrel plug to the adapter so that it reads TIP.
2. Set the adapter's voltage selector to 3V.
3. Insert the adapter's barrel plug into the receiver's DC 3V jack.
4. Plug the adapter into the vehicle's cigarette-lighter socket. This
automatically disconnects the internal batteries.
Cautions:
The vehicle must have a 12-volt DC, negative-ground electrical system.
You must use a DC adapter that supplies 3 volts and delivers at least 200
milliamps. Its center tip must be set to negative, and its plug must
correctly fit the receiver's DC 3V jack. Using an adapter that does not
meet these requirements could damage the receiver or the adapter.
Be sure the adapter is plugged into the cigarette-lighter socket only when
it is also plugged into the receiver.
