1. Turn V clockwise to turn on the transceiver.
2. To select the desired channel, press UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW. The
transceiver displays one of the following:
EMERG - for the emergency frequency.
GNRS 1 x - for the frequency stored in GMRS 1. x is replaced with a
a number (1 to 7) which is the reference number for the
frequency.
GMRS 2 x - for the frequency stored in GMRS 2. x is replaced with a

frequency.
GMRS INTER X - where x is replaced by a number (1 to 7) which is the
current interstitial channel.
To quickly select the emergency channel, press EMERGENCY.
3. Press HI/LO to select low power. LO PWR appears on the display. This
position conserves battery power.
If the person you transmit to has trouble receiving your signal, press
the power button again to set the transceiver to high power. HI PWR
appears on the display.
4. To transmit, press PTT. Then hold your transceiver about 3 inches
from your mouth and speak slowly in a normal tone of voice. PTT
appears on the display. When you finish speaking, release PTT.
5. BUSY appears on the display when you receive a transmission. Adjust
V to a comfortable listening level.
6. To mute any noise between transmissions, adjust S (squelch). Wait
until there is no signal on the channel, then slowly turn S clockwise
until the background noise stops.
NOTE: Do not turn S too far clockwise because you might cut out weak
signals.
OPERATIONAL HINTS
Your transceiver's range varies depending on factors such as position,
terrain, and battery condition. Buildings absorb transmitted signals and,
if they contain metal, might completely block them. Trees and heavy cloud
formations have a similar effect, though not as severe. If you are near a
lake or the ocean, you might get excellent range.
To ensure maximum range, operate the transceiver with the battery pack
fully charged. As the voltage decreases, the range decreases.
FCC INFORMATION
Your transceiver might cause TV or radio interference even when it is
operating properly. To determine whether your transceiver is causing the
interference, turn off your transceiver. If the interference goes away,
your transceiver is causing the interference. Try to eliminate the
interference by:
Moving your transceiver away from the receiver.
Contacting your local Radio Shack store for help.
If you cannot eliminate the interference, the FCC requires that you stop
using your transceiver.
