DX-351 (200-0215) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 3569

You can power the receiver using:

    Two AA batteries

Standard AC power (with an optional AC adapter)

A 12-volt DC vehicle's battery power (with an optional DC adapter)

INSTALLING BATTERIES

Your portable receiver uses two AA batteries (not supplied). For best
results, we recommend alkaline batteries such as Radio Shack Cat. No.
23-552.

1. Open the battery compartment by pushing the cover in the direction of
    the arrow.

2. Insert two AA batteries as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and -)
    marked beside the battery compartment.

3. Replace the battery compartment cover.

USING STANDARD AC POWER

You can power the receiver from a standard AC power outlet using an
optional AC adapter such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 273-1662 (not supplied).

CAUTION: You must use an AC adapter that supplies 3 volts with the center
tip set to negative. It must deliver at least 300 milliamps,
and its plug must properly fit the receiver's DC 3V jack. Using
an adapter that does not meet these specifications could damage
          the receiver or the adapter.

To use AC power, insert the adapter's small plug into the receiver's DC 3V
jack. Set the adapter's selector to 3V, then plug the adapter into a
standard AC outlet.

NOTE: When you connect the optional AC adapter, the receiver
       automatically disconnects the internal batteries.

USING A VEHICLE'S BATTERY POWER

Using an optional DC adapter, such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 270-1560 (not
supplied), you can operate the receiver in a car, boat, or recreational
vehicle equipped with a 12-volt DC, negative-ground electrical system.

CAUTIONS: You must use a DC adapter that supplies 3 volts with the center
tip set to negative. It must deliver at least 300 mA, and its
plug must properly fit the receiver's DC 3V jack. Using an
adapter that does not meet these specifications could damage
           the receiver or the adapter.

To protect your vehicle's electrical system, always plug the
adapter into the receiver before you plug it into the
cigarette-lighter socket, and always unplug the adapter from
the cigarette-lighter socket before you unplug it from the
           receiver.

Do not let the adapter's barrel plug contact any metal parts of
the vehicle when plugging the adapter into the lighter socket.
This can damage the adapter or the vehicle's electrical system.

Follow these steps to connect the DC adapter.

1. Set the adapter's voltage selector to 3 VOLTS.

2. Insert the adapter's barrel plug into the receiver's DC 3V jack.

3. Plug the other end of the adapter into the vehicle's cigarette-lighter
    socket.

NOTE: Connecting the DC adapter automatically disconnects the internal
       batteries.
