BTX-121 (190-1202) Operation Faxback Doc. # 15207

Follow these steps to operate your transceiver:

1. Turn VOLUME clockwise to turn on the transceiver.

2. Set CHANNEL to the position for the frequency you want to use.

3. Unless you connect an external antenna, hold the transceiver so that
its "rubber duck" antenna is vertical.

4. Be sure to set RF POWER HI/LO to LO. This position conserves battery
power. If the person you transmit to has trouble receiving your
signal, set the switch to HI.

5. To transmit, press PUSH TO TALK then hold your transceiver about 3
inches from your mouth and speak slowly in a normal tone of voice. The
    BUSY/TX/BATT indicator lights red.

6. To receive a message, release PUSH TO TALK. The BUSY/TX/BATT indicator
lights green when you receive a transmission.

7. Adjust VOLUME to a comfortable listening level.

8. Adjust SQUELCH to mute the noise between transmissions. To do this,
wait until there is no signal on the channel. Then, slowly turn
SQUELCH clockwise until the background noise stops.

NOTE: Do not turn SQUELCH too far clockwise because you might cut out weak
       signals, too.

OPERATIONAL HINTS

Your transceiver's range varies depending on conditions. Factors such as
position, terrain, and battery condition all affect range. Buildings
absorb transmitted signals and, if they contain metal, might completely
block them. Trees and heavy cloud formations have a similar effect, though
not as severe. If you are near a lake or the ocean, you might get
excellent range.

ADDITIONAL FCC REGULATIONS

The Business Radio Service is under the jurisdiction of the Federal
Communications Commission (FCC). Any adjustments or alternations that
would alter the performance of the transceiver so it no longer meets the
original FCC type acceptance or would change the frequency-determining
method are strictly prohibited.

Replacement or substitution of crystal, transistors, ICs, regulator diodes,
or any other component that is of a unique nature with components other
than those recommended, can violate the technical regulations of the FCC
rules or violate type acceptance requirements of the rules.

Before you operate the transceiver, you must obtain your license. It is
illegal to transmit without the appropriate license, which you can get by
submitting a completed FCC Form 574 (included) to the FCC. Furthermore,
you are required to understand Part 90 of the FCC Rules and Regulations
prior to operating your transceiver. It is the user's responsibility to
see that this unit is operating at all times in accordance with the FCC
Rules and Regulations.
