The Compaq Presario 1267 Notebook PC comes with the ability to send and
receive faxes  Before doing so, you will need to make sure your modem is
connected.

IMPORTANT:  By default, the modem selects the COM2 port for telephone
communications.

BITWARE FAX

BitWare Fax is a faxing software program that is installed on your
computer.  This document contains basic information about sending and
receiving faxes with your computer.  For further instructions about
sending and receiving faxes with your computer, refer to the online Help
section of the BitWare Fax software.

GETTING STARTED
1.   Access the BitWare software:
     From the Windows taskbar, click the START button.  Point to
     PROGRAMS, then to BITWARE FAX, then click BITWARE FAX.

2.   Click the COMPOSE FAX button on the application bar or click
     PROGRAM on the Menubar and select the COMPOSE FAX option.

3.   The CHOSE PROFILE window appears.  Click the OK button.

4.   From the COMPOSE window, click the TO button and select an address
     from the Address Book.  The SELECT RECIPIENTS window will appear.

5.   Click on a name(s) from the Address Book and click TO, CC:, or
     BCC:.  Click the OK button.

6.   If the person you wish to send a fax to does not appear in the
     Address Book, you can add them.
     a.   From the SELECT RECIPIENTS window, click the NEW button.
     b.   The NEW ENTRY windows will appear.  Select BITWARE FAX as
          the entry type.  Click the OK button.
     c.   If you have not already completed the Windows98 Location
          Information screen, you will need to do so at this time.
          Select the country you are sending a fax from, enter the
          area or city code you are sending a fax from, and if you
          have to dial a number to get an outside line, enter it
          here.  Click the OK button.
     e.   Enter the first name, last name, country and fax number of
          the person you are sending a fax to.  Click the OK button.

CREATING AND SENDING A FAX

There are two ways to create and send a fax using the BitWare fax
software.

You can create a document using the word processing program of your choice
(MicroSoft Word, Corel WordPerfect, MicroSoft Wordpad, etc.), then select
BITWARE FAX as your printer driver.  When you select the PRINT option in
the software, you will be prompted for information on where the fax is
going.

To create and send a fax using BitWare Fax, follow the steps below.

1.   Type in a subject for your fax if so desired.  Below the subject
     header, type your fax message.

2.   To send an attachment with your fax, click the INSERT icon or click
     INSERT on the Menubar and select FILE from the menu.  Select the
     file to attach.

3.   If you would like to change the cover page, click the COVER PAGE
     tab and choose the desired cover page.  You can preview the cover
     page by highlighting the desired cover page and clicking the VIEW
     button.  To clock the cover page after you have previewed it, click
     the "X" icon.

     NOTE:  If you create your own cover page, you must save it as an
     *.RTF file in the following directory:
     C:\PROGRAM FILES\BITWARE\COVER

4.   If you would like to schedule the fax to be sent at a later time,
     click the SENDING OPTIONS tab and enter the appropriate
     information.

5.   Click the SEND button or click COMPOSE on the Menubar and select
     the SEND option.

BitWare is ready to send your fax.

NOTE:     BitWare Fax cannot wake up your computer from Sleep mode to send
scheduled faxes.

RECEIVING A FAX

To receive faxes, you will need to enable the INBOUND CALLS option.

1.   Access the BitWare Fax software:
     From the Windows taskbar, click the START button.  Point to
     PROGRAMS, then to BITWARE FAX, then click BITWARE FAX.

     The BitWare Fax window is displayed.

2.   Click the BITWARE PROPERTIES icon on the application bar or point
     to PROGRAM, then click BITWARE PROPERTIES.  Select the DEVICE tab.

3.   Make sure the INBOUND CALLS option has a checkmark in the FAX box.
     Click the OK button.

4.   If you pick up the telephone and realize it is a fax, click the
     RECEIVE FAX NOW button on the application bar or point to LINE and
     click RECEIVE FAX NOW.  Hang up the telephone.

VIEWING A FAX
To view a fax, follow the steps below.
1.   Double-click the INBOX icon on your desktop.

2.   The CHOOSE PROFILE window appears.  Click the OK button.

3.   The subject of the fax will be indicated in the message subject.

4.   Double-click the subject to open the message.  Double click the
     attachment to view the fax.

NOTE:  When the fax is highlighted, the fax message is displayed in the
       bottom section of the INBOX.

NOTE:  While in FAX VIEWER, you can print, annotate, delete, resend or
       forward the fax.
