Compaq Presario 1267 Notebook

The Compaq Presario 1267 Notebook has the ability to restore the system
at any time with Selective QuickRestore.  Selective QuickRestore has three
types of restore options:

RESTORE             DESCRIPTION
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Full                Returns the computer to it's original preinstalled
                    software state and reformats the hard drive.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Typical             Restores the hard drive from the last System Save.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Custom              Allows you to select the Compaq drivers or
                    applications you want to reinstall without
                    reformatting your hard drive.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

IMPORTANT:  Read though all of the information below before making a
decision.

FULL RESTORE
Full restore returns you computer to it's original preinstalled software
state.  It reformats your hard drive and removes all data from the
computer.

CAUTION: Full Restore destroys ALL data on your computer's hard disk.  If
         you have added personal files, software, or data since you
         purchased the computer, backup or copy this data to diskettes
         before proceeding.

To perform a Full Restore, follow the directions below:

1.   From the Windows DeskTop, double-click the PRESARIO SUPPORT (Q)
     icon.

2.   Click the QUICK RESTORE (QR) icon.  The QUICK RESTORE menu is
     displayed.

3.   Click the FULL RESTORE button.  The FULL RESTORE menu is displayed.

4.   Click the START button to begin the FULL RESTORE, and follow the on
     screen prompts.  Once your computer restarts, a Progress window is
     displayed.  During the Full Restore process, progress bar shows the
     percentage of the software restored to the hard drive.  After the
     system is finished with the Full Restore, it will restart
     automatically.

NOTE:  An alternate procedure of performing a full restore can be found
       in Faxback document # 52124 "Reinstalling Original Software".

IMPORTANT:  Once the Full Restore is complete, you will need to provide
            the startup information again to complete the installation.
            This information includes the Product Key number from the
            cover of the MicroSoft Windows 98 Getting Started guide, your
            time zone, and the time and date.

TYPICAL RESTORE
Typical Restore allows you to restore your system using your last System
Save.

IMPORTANT:  You will not have the Typical Restore option if you have never
performed a System Save.  For information on performing a System Save,
refer to Faxback Document # xxxxx.
To Perform a Typical Restore, follow the steps below:

1.   From the Windows DeskTop, double-click the PRESARIO SUPPORT (Q)
     icon.

2.   Click the QUICK RESTORE (QR) icon.  The QUICK RESTORE menu is
     displayed.

3.   Click the TYPICAL RESTORE button.  The TYPICAL RESTORE menu is
     displayed.

4.   Click the START button to begin the Typical Restore.

Once the Typical Restore is finished, your computer will automatically
return to the Quick Restore main menu.

CUSTOM RESTORE
Custom Restore allows you to select the Compaq drivers or applications you
want to reinstall without reformatting your hard drive.

To perform a Custom Restore on your computer, complete the following
steps:

1.   From the Windows DeskTop, double-click the PRESARIO SUPPORT (Q)
     icon.

2.   Click the QUICK RESTORE (QR) icon.  The QUICK RESTORE menu is
     displayed.

3.   Click the CUSTOM RESTORE button.  The CUSTOM RESTORE menu is
     displayed.

4.   Click the icon representing the application or driver you want to
     reinstall.  The applications and drivers available are listed
     below:

     NEOMAGIC VIDEO      ESS AUDIO      DOS TPAD DRIVERS

     WIN TPAD DRIVERS    CD-ROM DRIVER       LUCENT MODEM DRIVER

     ON SCREEN DISPLY    MONITCPQ       MSYSTEMS FLASH DRVR

     MS WORD             MSWORKS             WIZHOST

     MCAFEE VIRUS SCAN   CPQ DIAGNOSTICS     COMPAQ APM UPDATE

     QUICKEN             TRIP MAKER BASIC    EASY ACCESS KEYBOARD

     CPQ INKJET DRIVER   GTE            CMPQ INTERNET SUPPORT

5.   Once the application / driver is reinstalled, a RESTART window will
     be displayed.  Click the OK button and your system will restart.

6.   Repeat this procedure to reinstall as many drivers or applications
     as you need.

CREATING A QUICK RESTORE EMERGENCY DISKETTE

Quick Restore is installed on your hard drive.  However, you will need to
create a Quick Restore emergency diskette in case you are unable to start
your computer properly.
To create a Quick Restore emergency diskette follow the steps below:
1.   From the Windows DeskTop, double-click the PRESARIO SUPPORT (Q)
     icon.

2.   Click the QUICK RESTORE (QR) icon.  The QUICK RESTORE menu is
     displayed.

3.   Click the SYSTEM UTILTIES button.  The SYSTEM UTILITIES menu is
     displayed.

4.   Click the RECOVERY DISK button.  You are prompted to insert a
     diskette into the diskette drive.

5.   Save the diskette in a safe place for emergency use.

USING THE QUICK RESTORE EMERGENCY DISKETTE

The Quick Restore emergency diskette is used if you are unable to start
your computer.  The diskette will help your computer get up and running
again.

To run the Quick Restore emergency diskette, complete the steps listed
below:

1.   Insert the Quick Restore emergency diskette you created into the
     diskette drive.

2.   Restart the system by pressing <CTRL> + <ALT> + <DEL>.  Your
     computer will restart, and the Quick Restore Recovery menu is
     displayed.

3.   Select one of the following Restore options:

     FULL RESTORE

     TYPICAL RESTORE

     EXIT TO DOS

4.   Press <ENTER>.

5.   If possible, the system will restore according to the type of
     restore you selected.

6.   After the restore finished, a windows is displayed notifying you
     that the computer has been restored.

7.   Remove the diskette from the diskette drive and restart the
     computer.
