Corel Address Book MAPI Errors     Faxback Doc. # 50917

You may receive an error when trying to access Corel's Address Book from

Start/Corel WordPerfect Suite/Accessories/Corel Address Book 8.

The error is:

An error occurred trying to logon to MAPI for address book services.

When clicking OK, another error will display:

There was an error starting the address book.

According to Microsoft TechNet, the error occurs due to the fact that
Outlook 98, which is preinstalled with Windows 98, only uses a stub of the
MAPI32.DLL file. The Corel Address Book requires full MAPI-capability to
function correctly. When Corel WordPerfect Suite is installed, the
MAPI32.DLL stub
is not replaced.

If Microsoft Outlook Express is removed before Corel WordPerfect Suite 8 is
installed, the error will not appear. If Corel WordPerfect Suite 8 has
already been installed, follow the following instructions to resolve the
problem.


1. Remove Outlook Express in add/remove programs under the Windows Setup
tab.
a. Start/Setting/Control Panel.
b. Choose the Windows Setup Tab.
c. Scroll down to Microsoft Outlook Express and click on the check mark.
Click Apply. Click OK.
d. Close Control Panel.

2. Run the Corel WordPerfect Suite 8 Setup program. At the Corel
WordPerfect Suite 8 Applications Disc screen, choose Corel WordPerfect
Suite Setup. Temporary files will be copied to the hard drive.

3. You will be taken to the Welcome screen. Click Next. The next screen
will be the license screen. Click Yes.

4. The next screen will be the Application Management. Click Remove and
then Next. An error will appear stating that the Windows Messaging files
are out of date and the Windows Messaging Setup will now run. Click OK.

5. You will be taken to a license screen. Click Yes.

6. At the Windows Messaging Setup Screen, Click Continue.

7. You will be asked for a name and organization. The default is Compaq for
both entries. Change this info if you wish. Click OK twice. The next window
will state that Windows Messaging Setup was completed successfully. Click
OK.

8. You will return to the Corel WordPerfect Suite 8 Applicatinos Disc
screen. Click Exit. You will return to the Windows98 desktop.

4. Right-click on the Inbox icon. Left-click Properties. From the
Properties screen, click Add.

5. Click on Manually Configure Information Services. Click Next. Your
Profile Name will be Compaq. Change this if you wish. Click Next.

6. In the Compaq Properties window, click Add. Choose Corel Address Book 8
and click OK.

7. From the Corel Address Book Properties click OK. You will return to the
Compaq Properties window. Click OK.

8. Next, you will see the Inbox Setup Wizard window stating that Corel
Address Book 8 has been setup as an information service. Click Finish. You
will return to the Mail window. Click Close.

The Corel Address Book can now be accessed without errors.
