The software titles that come in the Compaq MultiMedia Kit are easy to
install. They all are designed to automatically launch their setup program
when inserted into the CD-ROM drive. The setup program then will guide you
through the installation. However, to insure a pleasant OOBE (Out Of Box
Experience) we are providing complete, step-by-step installation and setup
guides for each software package.

MOTORACER:

Test your skills in the "extreme" sport of motocross "racing"! Follow the
directions below to install this adrenaline charged game!
1. Insert the MotoRacer CD into the CD-ROM drive.
2. The MotoRacer install screen should appear. The following options will
be available:
INSTALL
DIRECT X 3
EXIT
Click on INSTALL.
3. A dialog box welcoming you to the MotoRacer Setup Program will appear.
Click on NEXT.
4. A dialog box listing the destination directory as:
C:\PROGRAM FILES\MOTORACER\
will appear. Click on NEXT.
5. A dialog box will appear, asking which type of install you prefer. The
options are:
TYPICAL - PROGRAM WILL BE INSTALLED WITH THE MOST COMMON OPTIONS
COMPACT - PROGRAM WILL BE INSTALLED WITH MINIMUM REQUIRED OPTIONS
CUSTOM - YOU MAY CHOOSE THE OPTIONS YOU WISH TO INSTALL
6. Files will begin copying. A gauge will appear, indicating what
percentage of the files have been copied.
7. Once it finishes copying, the following message will appear:
SETUP IS COMPLETE. YOU CAN RUN THE PROGRAM BY DOUBLE CLICKING ON THE
PROGRAM ICON
Click NEXT
8. A dialog box will appear, stating the following:
MOTO RACER REQUIRES THE MICROSOFT DIRECTX 3 SOPFTWARE INTERFACE OR A
LATER VERSION OF DIRECTX. IF YOUR PC DOESN'T HAVE THE LATEST VERSION,
PLEASE INSTALL IT NOW.
DO YOU WANT TO INSTALL DIRECTX 3 NOW?
As the standard installation of Windows 98 includes DirectX 5.0, you
already have a later version installed. click on NO.
A NOTE ABOUT DIRECT X:
DirectX is primarily an application program interface (API) for creating
and managing graphic images and multimedia effects in applications such
as games or active Web pages that will run in Microsoft's Windows 95
operating system. (Such an application program might be written in C++
(or Visual C/C++) or Java.) The capability to "play" DirectX
applications comes as an integrated part of Microsoft's Internet Explorer
4.0 Web browser.
The DirectX Software Development Kit (SDK) includes tools that let a
developer create or integrate graphic images, overlays, sprites, and
other game elements, including sound. There is also a Driver Development
Kit (DDK) that lets developers create drivers for display, audio, and
other I/O devices.
DirectX is designed so that some functions can be performed on a graphics
accelerator card, freeing the microprocessor for other work. The
accelerator manufacturer provides a driver especially for DirectX.
9. The MotoRacer menu will reappear. The following options will be
available:
INSTALL
DIRECTX 3
RUN
UNINSTALL
EXIT
If you wish to run MotoRacer at this time, click on RUN. If you wish
to run it later, click on EXIT.

MICROSOFT ENCARTA 98

MicroSoft Encarta 98 Encyclopedia is your doorway to a rich and
"fascinating" world of information. To install this software, follow the
directions below:
1. Insert the Encarta 98 CD into the CD-DRIVE. The Welcome dialog box
should appear. Click on NEXT.
2. The End User License Agreement will appear. Be sure to carefully read
and understand all of the rights and restrictions, then click on
ACCEPT.
3. A dialog box will appear, indicating that the program will be installed
in the following directory:
C:\PROGRAM FILES\MICROSOFT REFERENCE\ENCARTA ENCYCLOPEDIA
Click NEXT.
4. A dialog box labeled "READY TO INSTALL" will appear. Click FINISH.
5. Files will begin copying. A gauge will appear, indicating what
percentage of the files have been copied.
6. Once it is finished copying, a dialog box indicating that the setup is
complete will appear. To immediatly run Encarta 98, click RUN. To
return to Windows, click EXIT SETUP.

MicroSoft BookShelf 98

MicroSoft BookShelf is a mutlimedia reference library that turns your
personal computer into a rich resource of information, education, and
entertainment. To install this software package, follow the directions
below:
1. Insert the BookShelf 98 CD into the CD-DRIVE. The Welcome dialog box
should appear. Click on CONTINUE.
2. Files will begin copying. A gauge will appear, indicating what
percentage of the files have been copied.
3. A dialog box asking you to register BookShelf will appear. Either
click on BEGIN to enter your registration information, or click on
CANCEL to register at a later time.
4. You will now see the MicroSoft BookShelf main menu. If you do not wish
to use BookShelf at this time, click on FILE and select EXIT.

MicroSoft Money 98

MicroSoft Money 98 helps you track your finances, save money, and plan for
the future, and is the most complete and easy-to-use financial tool
available for the home-pc user. To install this software package, follow
the directions below:
1. Insert the Money 98 CD into the CD-DRIVE. The Welcome dialog box
should appear. Click on CONTINUE.
2. You will be asked to enter your name. Once you do so, click on OK.
3. A dialog box will appear displaying your MicroSoft Product ID Number.
Click on OK.
4. A dialog box will appear, indicating that the program will be installed
in the following directory:
C:\PROGRAM FILES\MICROSOFT MONEY
Click OK.
5. The End User License Agreement will appear. Be sure to carefully read
and understand all of the rights and restrictions, then click on I
AGREE.
6. A dialog box will appear, indicating, once again, that the program will
be installed in the following directory:
C:\PROGRAM FILES\MICROSOFT MONEY
Click on CONTINUE.
7. Files will begin copying. A gauge will appear, indicating what
percentage of the files have been copied.
8. A dialog box will appear asking if you wish to use the Online Banking
function of Money 98. Click either YES or NO.
9. You will be told that to finish the installation procedure, you will
need to restart Windows. Click on RESTART WINDOWS. Windows will
restart.

QUICKEN BASIC 98

Quicken 98 helps you track your finances, save money, and plan for the
future, and is the most complete and easy-to-use financial tool available
for the home-pc user. To install this software package, follow the
directions below:
1. Insert the Quicken 98 CD into the CD-DRIVE. You will be asked if you
would like to install the program on your hard disk. Click on YES.
2. A Welcome To Quicken Basic 98 For Windows Setup dialog box will appear.
Click on NEXT.
3. You will be asked to enter the name of the PC manufacturer. As this
program came with a compaq computer, type:
COMPAQ
and click on NEXT.
4. A dialog box will appear, listing the following options:
__X__ QUICKEN BASIC 98
__X__ INTERNET EXPLORER 3.02
DESTINATION DIRECTORY - C:\QUICKENW
As MicroSoft Windows 98 already comes with a new version of Internet
Explorer, click on that option to remove the checkmark, then click on
NEXT.
5. A dialog box informing you that the directory C:\QUICKENW does not
exist, You will be given the option to create the directory or not
create the directory. Click on YES to create the directory.
6. A dialog box informing you that the shortcut to Quicken Basic 98 will
be placed in the Quicken Financial Solutions folder. Click on NEXT.
7. A dialog box informing you that you are installing Quicken Basic 98 in
the C:\QUICKENW directory, and that shortcut will be in the Quicken
Financial Solutions program folder will appear. Click on START
COPYING.
8. A dialog box indicating that the setup is complete. Click on FINISH.
9. Windows will shut down and restart.

COREL WORDPERFECT SUITE 8

Corel WordPerfect Suite 8 adds an updated, more intuitive user interface to
a classic product. To install this package, follow the directions below:
1. Insert the Corel WordPerfect Suite 8 CD into the CD-DRIVE. The
WordPerfect Suite Setup dialog box will appear. Click on "COREL
WORDPERFECT QUITE SETUP".
2. A dialog box welcoming you to the Corel WordPerfect Suite Setup will
appear. Click on NEXT.
3. The End User License Agreement will appear. Be sure to carefully read
and understand all of the rights and restrictions, then click on YES.
4. A dialog box requesting the following information will appear:
FIRST NAME__________________________________

COMPANY_____________________________________
SERIAL NUMBER_______________________________
The serial number should be on the Corel Registration Card included in
the MultiMedia Kit (Example: WP8X0-CPQ3527952). Enter the information,
then click on NEXT.
5. A dialog box asking what type of installation you prefer. The options
are:
TYPICAL - PERFORMS A STANDARD INSTALLATION (RECOMMENDED)
DEFAULT SIZE 151.65 MB
COMPACT - PERFORMS A MINIMUM INSTALLATION
DEFAULT SIZE 64.94 MB
CUSTOM - LETS YOU CHOOSE WHICH COMPONANTS TO INSTALL
DEFAULT SIZE 152.84
RUN FROM CD - INSTALLS FILES TO THE HARD DISK THAT LETS YOU RUN
THE APPLICATIONS FROM THE CD-ROM (RUNS SLOWEST)
DEFAULT SIZE 28.87 MB
The recommend option for most users is TYPICAL. Select the one that
you prefer, then click on NEXT.
NOTE: If you select CUSTOM, then select all options, the installation will
require 433.93 MB.
6. A dialog box asking you to select which packages to install. The
options are:

Select the options that you wish to install. By default, the space
required will be 151.65 MB. If you select all componants, it will
require 181.18 MB. Click on NEXT.
7. A dialog box will appear, indicating that the program will be installed
in the following directory:
C:\COREL\SUITE8\
Click on INSTALL.
8. Files will begin copying. A gauge will appear, indicating what
percentage of the files have been copied. This will go on for some
time, and will count up to 100 % more than once, as more than one
package is being installed. While it is copying, you will be treated
to a series of advertisements for other Corel products.
9. Once it is finished copying files, a dialog box informing you that
Setup needs to restart the computer to complete the installation.
Click on RESTART.
10. Windows will restart. Files will begin copying. A gauge will appear,
indicating what percentage of the files have been copied.
11. Finally, a dialog box will appear, informing you that the setup has
complete successfully. Click on OK.
