INTRODUCTION

Hibernation is a Power Management feature which saves the contents of RAM
memory to the hard drive right before the battery runs out of power. Once
hibernation saves your work, it will shut down the computer. After power
is restored, hibernation enables your computer to return to the same state.

Your computer's hibernation feature has been set up to accommodate a
maximum hardware configuration of 96 MB of RAM. If you have less than 96
MB installed, you can recover up to 80 MB of hard drive space by using this
hibernation utility.

This utility optimizes the size of the hibernation file to match the amount
of RAM memory you have installed. If you add more RAM memory to your
computer after running PHDISK32.EXE, rerun PHDISK32.EXE or your computer
will not Hibernate properly.

-------------------------------------------------------
CAUTION: When you upgrade your memory configuration,
you need to delete the hibernation file and recreate
it or the Hibernate feature may not function properly.
-------------------------------------------------------
NOTE: The hibernation utility, PHDISK32.EXE, is located
in C:\HIBERNAT.
-------------------------------------------------------

To see what size your hibernation file is and how big your hibernation file
needs to be for the amount of memory in your system, follow the steps
below:

1. Exit Windows.
From the Windows desktop click on the START button, then SHUT DOWN,
then RESTART THE COMPUTER IN MS-DOS MODE, then YES.

2. At the "C:\WINDOWS" prompt, type: C:\HIBERNAT\PHDISK32, then press
    ENTER.

3. When you are done reading the first screen, press ENTER
to see the second screen and return to the DOS prompt.

To resize your hibernation file to match the amount of RAM in your system,
follow the steps below:

1. Run C:\HIBERNAT\PHDISK32 /D /f to delete the current file.

2. Rerun C:\HIBERNAT\PHDISK32 /C /f to create a new file.

NOTE: The program automatically sizes the hibernation file.

To rerun the utility, follow the steps below:

1. From the WINDOWS desktop, go to START, then click on SHUT DOWN.

2. Click on RESTART YOUR COMPUTER IN MS DOS MODE.

3. Click on YES.

4. At the command line, type one of the following commands:

PHDISK32 /D /f (to delete the Hibernation utility file)
PHDISK32 /C /f (to create the Hibernation utility file)

NOTE: The hibernation utility will automatically restart Windows when you
      are finished.
