NOTE: To avoid damaging your equipment, always shut down Windows and turn
the computer off before adding any new hardware.
USING EXTERNAL SPEAKERS:
External amplified speakers or headphones can be attached to the headphone
jack on the front of the computer. To avoid damaging equipment or risking
hearing loss, use the volume buttons directly below the touchpad buttons to
adjust the volume to it's lowest setting before attaching the speakers or
headphone. Once the speakers or headphones are attached, you can adjust
the volume to a comfortable level.
When you attach external speakers or headphones, the internal speakers will
be disabled.
CONNECTING AN EXTERNAL MICROPHONE:
Insert the microphone pug into the mic jack on the front of the computer.
CONNECTING AN EXTERNAL MOUSE:
With the computer off, attach the mouse to either the serial RS-232 port or
the PS/2 port. When the computer is turned back on and Windows starts, it
should automatically add the drivers for the mouse.
By default, the external mouse will override the internal touch pad. To
change this, click START, SETTINGS and select CONTROL PANEL. In CONTROL
PANEL, double click on MOUSE. Once the MOUSE dialog box appears, select
the MORE FEATURES tab.
On the MORE FEATURES tab, you will see the following option:
__X__ EXTERNAL MOUSE OVERRIDES BUILT-IN TOUCH PAD (default)
_____ OPERATE TOUCHPAD AND EXTERNAL MOUSE SIMULTANEOUSLY
Select your preference, then click on OK.
CONNECTING AN EXTERNAL KEYBOARD:
With the computer off, connect the external keyboard to the PS/2 port on
the back of the computer. Both the internal and external keyboards will be
functional.
CONNECTING AN EXTERNAL MONITOR:
To prevent damage to the computer, turn off both the monitor and the
computer before connecting or disconnecting it to the computer. To prevent
damage to the computer display, do not put an external monitor or any other
object on top of the computer when it is closed.
1. Turn off your computer.
2. Plug the monitor cable into the external monitor connector on the back
of the computer.
3. Plug the monitor power cord into a properly grounded wall outlet, then
turn on the monitor.
4. Turn on your computer.
5. Press <FN> + <F3> to toggle between the display, the external monitor,
and simultanous display.
6. Ensure that the computer recognises your monitor type. From the
Windows DeskTop, click on MY COMPUTER, then CONTROL PANEL, then DISPLAY
PROPERTIES. From the DISPLAY PROPERTIES window, click on the SETTINGS
tab, then click on CHANGE DISPLAY TYPE. Select the appropriate
manufacturer and model, if necessary.
SETTING UP YOUR PRINTER
This section provides general advice to help you set up a printer and
connect it to your computer. For more detailed information, refer to the
documentation that came with your printer. If your printer driver software
is not included, contact your printer manufacturer for more information.
1. Turn off your computer.
2. Connect the parallel cable to the parallel connector on the back of
the computer, and on the back or side of the printer.
3. Plug the printer's power cord into a properly grounded wall outlet.
4. Press the printer's power button to turn on the printer.
5. Turn on the computer.
INSTALLING YOUR PRITNER DRIVERS
1. From the Windows DeskTop, click on the START button. Point to
SETTINGS, then click on PRINTERS. The PRINTERS windows should appear.
2. Double click on the ADD PRINTER icon in the PRINTERS window.
3. Follow the instructions in the ADD PRINTER WIZARD, or refer to the
documentation that came with the printer to install the correct drivers.
ADDING NEW HARDWARE:
If you add new hardware (such as a printer or a gamepad) to your computer,
you may be prompted to insert the Windows 98 installation CD or diskettes.
If this occurs, locate your C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS directory or insert the
QUICKRESTORE CD into the CD drive and open the WIN 98 directory. Click on
the OK button, then follow the directions on your screen.
