PC Cards (or PCMCIA Cards) are credit card sized removable options that
expand the capability of the computer.  PC Cards come in three different
sizes: Type I, Type II, and Type III.  They all have 68-pin connectors.
They're all about the same length and width of a credit card, but vary in
thickness.

PC Card Types

Extended Type I, Type II and Type III PC Cards are the same height and
width as standard size cards, but have added length and/or thickness at
one end so they can accommodate external connectors or wireless PC Cards
antennas.

The Presario 1220 can accept one of the following PC Cards:

- One Type I PC Card, or
- One Type II PC Card, or
- One Type III PC Card

Installing A PC Card

Most PC Cards can be easily installed and configured on your Compaq
Notebook computer in Windows95 because the necessary PC Card software is
provided.

When you insert a PC Card for the first time, Windows 95 recognizes the new
hardware, automatically determines the necessary settings, and usually
installs the correct PC Card software driver.

Note: You do not need to turn off the computer or initiate Sleep mode
before installing a PC Card.

To install a PC Card:

1.  Guide the PC Card, label side up, into the PC Card slot.

2.  Gently push the card into the slot.  The computer configures the PC
    Card and beeps when the card is ready to use.

Important: Do not force the card into the slot.  This can damage the
connector pins.

Removing A PC Card:

Before you remove a PC Card from the computer, click on the PC Card icon on
the Windows Taskbar to stop card activity.  A popup window prompts you to
remove the card.  Then follow these steps to remove the PC Card.

1.  Flip the PC Card eject lever towards you.

2.  Push the lever straight into the unit.  The PC Card pops out, and the
    computer beeps.

3.  Gently grasp the card and pull it out completely.
