Compaq Presario 1220 Notebook
(250-0325) Sleep And Hibernation Modes Faxback Doc. # 47010

The Presario 1220 Notebook Computer is equipped with two primary Power
Management features: Sleep and Hibernation. The Sleep feature allows you
to reduce the amount of power consumed by the computer while it is not in
use and to wake up the computer immediately when you are ready to use it
again. The Hibernation feature makes a "bookmark" in your work by saving
all of your open documents and Windows DeskTop configurations, then
completely shuts down the computer. Hibernation, therefore, saves more
power than Sleep, however, it takes slightly longer to wake up the computer
from Hibernation that it does from Sleep.

NOTE: Some games may experience audio or video problems if interrupted by
Sleep or Hibernation.

SLEEP

When your computer is in sleep mode, the Power Management feature reduces
the amount of power consumed by the computer. There are two ways for your
computer to Sleep:

AUTOMATIC - Your computer automatically enters Sleep after a set period of
inactivity. You can change the Sleep timeout period in the Computer
  Setup utility.

MANUAL - You can also manuually put the computer to Sleep by pressing the
Sleep key combination (FN + F3).

When you are ready to use the computer again, press any key on the
keyboard.

HIBERNATION

When your computer enters Hibernation, the system automatically saves your
files and Windows DeskTop configuration before shutting down and powering
off. After charging the battery or connecting the AC adapter to the
computer, if necessary, you can wake up the computer by pressing the power
button. When the computer wakes up, everything appears as you left it, and
the computer recalls your files and desktop configuration as they were
before the computer began to Hibernate. There are two ways for your
computer to enter Hibernation:

AUTOMATIC - If Hibernation is enabled in the Computer Setup utility, your
computer automatically enters Hibernation when the battery has little
power left or when it is in Sleep mode and the battery reaches the Low
  Battery charge state.

MANUAL - You can also manually initiate Hibernation by pressing the
  Hibernation key combination (FN+F4).

When you are ready to use the computer again, press the power button. The
computer starts up and recalls your files and Windows DesKTop configuration
exactly as they were when the computer entered hibernation.
