Error Code Description Here's what to do:
No beep during power-on Make sure that the system unit is
self-test (POST) turned on.
Screen is black If you installed memory modules or
(no error code), more adapter cards make sure you

10X System Board Error Turn off the system unit, wait
129 10 seconds, and then turn on the
system unit again.
110 System Board 1. A system memory module (SIMM)
Parity Error has failed. Make sure SIMMs
are inserted correctly. For
instructions on inserting
SIMMs, see "Installing system
memory modules" on page 71.
2. Turn off the system unit, wait
10 seconds, and then turn the
system unit on again.
111 I/O Channel 1. Make sure all adapter cards
Parity Error are installed correctly. For
instructions on installing
114 Adapter ROM Error adapter cards in your desktop
system unit, see "Adding and
removing adapter cards" on
page 89. For instructions on
installing adapter cards in
your minitower system unit,
see "Adding and removing
adapter cards" on page 111.
2. Turn off the system unit,

127 Processor Speed Error If you changed the
processor, it may not be
fully supported by the
BIOS. The computer will
operate normally but you
will always see this error
when you turn on the
computer.
If you did not change the
processor, turn off the
computer, wait 10 seconds,
and then turn the computer
on again.
161 Bad CMOS Battery Make sure the battery is
installed correctly. If the
error continues, install a new
battery. For instructions on
installing the battery, see
"Replacing the system battery" on
page 78.
162 Configuration Error If you are using Rapid
Configuration Change Resume, complete the
Has Occurred following steps:
- if you have not installed
or removed hardware,
check your Guide to
HelpWare and All the
Extras folder for infor-
mation on obtaining
service.
Note: Any work that you
did not save before the
computer was turned off
cannot be retrieved.
- If you have installed or
removed hardware, press
the on/off button on the
system unit to turn it
off. Return the hardware
to its previous config-
uration, wait 10 seconds,
and then turn on the
system unit again. If
the error does not
reoccur, save any work
that you want to keep and
reinstall your hardware.
If the error occurs
again, check your Guide
to HelpWare and All the
Extras folder for
information on obtaining
service.
If you are not using Rapid
Resume:
- Press Enter while the
error message is
displayed to start the
Setup Utility. Look
through the Setup Utility
and verify that the
options with -> next to
them were supposed to
change. If so, press the
Esc key and then press
Enter to save the new
settings. Then exit the
Setup Utility. For more
information on using the
Setup Utility, see "Using
the Setup Utility" on
page 31. If options
changed that were not
supposed to, check your
Guide to HelpWare and All
the Extras folder for
information on obtaining
service.

163 Date and Time Incorrect 1. The clock module on the
system board may not be set
correctly. To set the
correct date and time, press
Enter while the error message
is displayed to enter the
Setup Utility. For
instructions on using the

Setup Utility" on page 31.
You can change the clock in
the Date and Time menu.
2. You may need to replace the
system battery. For these
instructions, see "Replacing
the system battery" on
page 78.
164 Memory Size Error 1. If you are using Rapid Resume
and you have installed or
removed hardware, press the
on/off button on the system
unit to turn it off. Return
the hardware to its previous
configuration, wait 10 sec-
onds, and then turn on the
system unit again. If the
error does not reoccur, save
any work that you want to
keep and reinstall your
hardware. If the error
occurs again, check your
Guide to HelpWare and All the
Extras folder for information
on obtaining service.
2. If you are not using Rapid
Resume and you have added or
removed system memory from
your computer, press Enter
while the error message is
displayed to enter the Setup
Utility. Choose System

201 Memory Error Make sure memory modules
(SIMMs) are inserted

229 External Cache Error If you have added any external
cache modules, make sure they are
inserted correctly and com-

602 Diskette Boot Error Make sure the diskette has been
formatted. If you don't want to
use the diskette to boot (start)
your computer, remove the
diskette from the drive.
662 Diskette Drive 1. If you added or removed a
Configuration diskette drive, press Enter

displayed to enter the Setup
Utility. Choose Input/Output
Ports from the Setup Utility
Main Menu and verify that the
Diskette Drive settings are
correct. If the settings are
not correct, change the

1762 Hard Disk 1. Make sure the cables to all
Configuration drives are securely attached.
Error
2. Press Enter while the error
message is displayed to enter
the Setup Utility. Choose
Disk Drives from the Setup
Utility Main Menu. Make sure
the setting for the drive
options are correct. If the
settings are not correct,
change the settings. For
instructions on using the
Setup Utility, see "Using the

1780 Drive 1 (Hard Disk) Error 1. Make sure the cables to all
drives are securely attached.
1781 Drive 2 (Hard Disk) Error 2. Press Enter while the error
message is displayed to enter
1782 Drive 3 (Hard Disk) Error the Setup Utility. Choose
System Information from the
1783 Drive 4 (Hard Disk) Error Setup Utility Main Menu and
verify that the Processor
Speed setting is correct.
(Find the processor speed
[in MHz] on the label
attached to the front of your
system unit.) If the setting
is not correct, check your
Guide to HelpWare and All the
Extras folder for information
on obtaining service.
3. Make sure the hard disk
signal cable is attached to
the correct connector on the
system board and the jumper
settings on the hard disk are
correct. For information
about drive connectors and
settings in the desktop
system unit, see "Adding and
removing drives" on page 94.

the minitower system unit,
see "Adding and removing
drives" on page 116.

180X PCI or Plug and Play 1. In the Setup Utility's ISA
Adapter Card Resource Legacy Resources menus,
Error verify that the resources
allocated to any other
installed adapter cards are
actually required by the
other cards. For instruc-
tions on using the Setup
Utility, see "Using the Setup
Utility" on page 31. For
information about assigning
ISA Legacy resources, see
"Changing adapter card device
information" on page 44.
2. To provide resources for the
adapter card:
a. From the Windows 95
Device Manager, remove
the COM and LPT ports.
b. In the Setup Utility,
disable serial port A
and the parallel port.
c. Restart Windows. The
serial and parallel ports
will be enabled when they
are needed.
24XX Video Error 1. Make sure the monitor cables
are correctly and securely
connected to the system unit.
2. If a video adapter card is
installed, make sure it is
installed correctly. For
instructions, see the docu-
mentation that came with the
adapter card.
3. If the error continues,
remove the video adapter
card. If removing the card
corrects the error, replace
the card with a new one.
2462 Video Configuration Error 1. Make sure the monitor cables
are correctly and securely
connected to the system unit.
2. If you installed a video
adapter card, press Enter
while the error message is
displayed to enter the Setup
Utility. Press the Esc key
and then press Enter to save
the new setting.
3. Press Enter while the error
message is displayed to enter
the Setup Utility. Choose
System Information and Video
Information from the Setup
Utility Main Menu to verify
that the settings for the
Video Controller and Video
Memory options are correct in
the Setup Utility. For
instructions on using the
Setup Utility, see "Using the
Setup Utility" on page 31.
