Video Interface
Your system board comes with two external video memory module sockets
(Socket 1 and Socket 2). You can upgrade the video memory to a maximum of
2 MB. To upgrade video memory, you MUST INSTALL TWO VIDEO MEMORY MODULES.
You cannot install a video memory module in one socket and leave the other
socket empty.
NOTE: Each Memory Module you install must have these specifications: 40-
pin, surface mount package (SOJ), 256K x 16, 70 nsec, dual CAS DRAM
NOTE: Before you turn your computer off, you must set the video resolution
to 640x480x16 (VGA) in OS/2 Warp.
Installing Video Memory
To upgrade video memory, follow these steps:
1. One end of the video memory module will have a dot, notch, bevel or any
combination. Locate the dot, notch or bevel on the video memory
module.
2. The socket of the video memory location has one corner of the socket
angled. This angled corner is equivalent to Pin 1 or the end that is
notched, or dotted. Position the end of the memory module that has the
dot, notch or bevel to coincide with the angled corner of the socket.
3. Align the rounded pins on the sides of the memory module with the
grooves in the memory module socket.
4. Press straight down firmly on the module to insert it into the socket.
A properly inserted module will sit completely inside the socket.
5. Reinstall any hardware removed to access the video memory module
sockets.
NOTE: When you have finished installing additional video memory modules,
you must re-install the video drivers in OS/2 Warp.
Reinstalling Video Drivers in OS/2 Warp
You must reinstall the video drivers when you install additional video
memory. To reinstall the video drivers in OS/2 Warp, follow these steps:
1. Double-click on the OS/2 System icon on the OS/2 Desktop.
2. In the "OS/2 System" window, double-click on the Command Prompts icon.
3. Double-click on the OS/2 Window icon.
4. At the C:\ prompt, type:
CD TRIDENT.OS2
and press <enter>.
5. Type:
INSTALL
and press <enter>. The "Trident Display Drivers Installation"
window appears.
NOTE: The "Trident Display Drivers Installation" notebook automatically
opens to the Screen section. If you accidentally open another
section, just click on the SCREEN tab to get back to the correct
page.
6. In the "Screen resolution" box, click on one combination of screen
width, screen height, and number of colors (for example, 640x480x256).
7. Click on the tab marked "Refresh". The Vertical Refresh rates will be
displayed.
8. Click on the down arrow in the Vertical Refresh Rate box for the
resolution you will use. When you see the list of refresh rates,
click on the one you will use. Click on INSTALL.
9. When the "Trident Display Installation" window with the message
"Installation has been completed..." appears, click on OK.
10. When the C:\ prompt reappears, type:
EXIT
and press <enter>.
11. Shut down OS/2 Warp and reboot (restart) your computer.
Video Adapter Cards
When you install a video adapter card, you do not need to reset (move)
jumpers on the system board. The built in video controller will be
disabled automatically. However, you may need to set jumpers on the video
adapter card.
