SCR-60 (140-0707) Care and Maintenance Faxback Doc. # 9964

Your Radio Shack AM/FM Stereo Auto Reverse Cassette Recorder with Bass
Boost is an example of superior design and craftsmanship. The following
suggestions will help you care for the recorder so you can enjoy it for
years.

Keep the recorder dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately.
Liquids can contain minerals that corrode electronic circuits.

Handle the recorder gently and carefully. Dropping it can damage
its circuit boards and case and can cause it to work improperly.

Use and store the recorder only in normal temperature environments.
Temperature extremes can shorten the life of electronic devices and
    distort or melt plastic parts.

Keep the recorder away from dust and dirt, which can cause premature
    wear of parts.

Occasionally wipe the recorder with a damp cloth to keep it looking
new. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong
    detergents to clean the recorder.

Use only fresh batteries of the required size and type. Always
remove weak or dead batteries. They can leak chemicals that destroy
    electronic circuits.

Modifying or tampering with the recorder's internal components can cause a
malfunction and might invalidate the recorder's warranty. If the recorder
is not operating as it should, take it to your local Radio Shack store for
assistance.

CLEANING THE TAPE-HANDLING PARTS

To prevent noise and poor high-frequency response, clean the SCR-60's
tape-handling parts after every 20 hours of use.

Before you clean the tape-handling parts, press PLAY to expose the play
head.

Use a cotton swab dipped in tape head cleaning solution or denatured
alcohol to gently clean the capstans, pinch rollers, and tape heads.
Tape head cleaning supplies are available at your local Radio Shack store.

Caution: The SCR-60 uses a permanent magnet erasing system that ensures
recording clarity and high-frequency response. Unlike other
erasing systems, the permanent magnet erase head does not
accumulate residual magnetism that interferes with recording.
Do not try to demagnetize the record/play heads as this is
unnecessary and could actually damage the SCR-60.
