MPA-46 (320-2042) Troubleshooting Faxback Doc. # 7711

Your MPA-46 Amplifier should require very little maintenance. If you do
have problems, refer to this chart for possible solutions. If you cannot
solve the problem, contact your local Radio Shack store for assistance.

Nothing works Check the AC power connection. Make sure the AC outlet has
               power.

Check the amplifier's fuse (on the back panel). If the
fuse is blown, replace it with the supplied spare fuse or
an identical 2-amp, 250-volt fuse (see "Replacing the
               Fuse").

Check the power connections to the rest of the system
               (turntable, CD player, tuner, etc.).

Make sure none of the speaker wiring, microphone cables, or
               other connecting cables are defective.

No signal Check the control setting.

Make sure a microphone is not defective.

Hum from Connect the turntable's ground wire (usually black or
PHONO green) to one of the GND screws on the back of the
               amplifier.

Remove the amplifier's AC plug from the AC outlet and
re-insert it in the reverse position.

Hum from Make sure there are no low level inputs connected
other inputs to the PHONO/AUX.CD jack.

Remove the source input's AC plug from the AC outlet and
               re-insert in the reverse position.

Feedback Move the microphone further away from the output speakers
"squeals" or use a directional microphone.

Adjust the FREQUENCY EQUALIZER controls if necessary.

Amplifier Be sure you have provided adequate ventilation to the
overheats amplifier.

Weak speaker Be sure you correctly calculated the total speaker
response impedance.

Be sure you connected the speakers with proper phasing.

If none of these solve the problem, take the amplifier to your local Radio
Shack store for assistance.
