SPEAKER PLACEMENT

Location and position are vital to your speakers' performance.  The ideal
location is on a table or shelf positioned near the corner of a room.  For
many modern rooms, a decorator shelf attached to a wooden wall (or other
acoustically hard surface) greatly reinforces their sound quality.  If
possible, place the front edge of the speakers flush with the front edge
of the shelf.

You can also place your speakers on stands (Cat. Nos. 40-2068A or 40-
2069A), or mount them on the wall using optional brackets (Cat. No. 40-
2067A).  Follow the instructions provided with the stands or brackets.
For the best sound, avoid floor locations.  Floor coverings can absorb
much of the sound.

We recommend that you play a familiar, wide-range recording and experiment
with speaker placement until you find the location that provides the best
sound for your needs.

For the best stereo image, the distance between the speakers should be
about equal to the distance from the main listening area to a point half
way between the speakers.

If you must place the speakers father apart, turn them slightly outward.
Experiment with your speakers' placement to discover the best location for
them.


ATTACHING RUBBER FEET

There are two types of rubber feet supplied with the system so the
speakers will not scratch your furniture.  Use the thicker ones for the
front (A).  Remove the paper backing and press all four feet on the bottom
of the speaker.


CONNECTIONS

With the speakers placed in their approximate final locations, measure the
distance from each speaker to the amplifier.  Use speaker wire or ordinary
18-gauge lamp cord (zip cord) for distances of 50 feet or less.  For
distances greater than 50 feet, use heavier 16-gauge wire.

Speaker wire coded with a ridge or stripe on one side makes the connection
process easier.  Radio Shack stores sell speaker wire to meet most needs.

For maximum bass response and overall best performance, connect the
speakers in phase (positive to positive and negative to negative).

Use the ridge or stripe on the wire as a guide to connect the speaker's
negative (-) terminal to the amplifier's corresponding (right or left)
negative terminal.  Then connect each speaker's positive terminal to the
amplifier's corresponding (right or left) positive (+) terminal.

Follow these steps to prepare the wire and connect the speakers.

1.  Separate the wire conductors for length of about 2 inches.

2.  Remove about 1/2 inch of insulation from the ends of the wire using a
    wire stripper.

3.  Push the tab on the left speaker's negative (-) terminal and insert
    one of the wire ends.  Release the tab.

4.  Push the tab on the left speaker's positive (+) terminal and insert
    the other wire end.  Release the tab.

Repeat this process for the right speaker.
