Radio Operation

1.  Set FUNCTION to RADIO.

2.  Set BAND to AM or FM.

3.  Set BEAT CUT to either 1 FM STEREO for FM stereo sound or to 2 FM MONO
    for monaural sound.

4.  Adjust TUNING to the desired station.

   Notes:  For the best AM reception, rotate the CD-3328 to position the
           built-in AM antenna.

           For the best FM reception, fully extend the telescoping antenna
           and swivel it to the position that produces the best reception.

           If FM stereo reception gets weak while BEAT CUT is set to 1 FM
           STEREO, set BEAT CUT to 2 FM MONO.  The sound is no longer in
           stereo, but reception should improve.

5.  Adjust VOLUME to a comfortable level.

6.  Set TONE to HIGH to emphasize treble sounds or to LOW to emphasize
    bass sounds.

7.  Set SURROUND to ON to turn on top speakers.

8.  To turn off the radio, set FUNCTION to TAPE.

CD Player Operation

Loading/Unloading a CD

1.  Set FUNCTION to CD.  -- flashes on the display.  Then, if a CD is
    loaded, the total number of tracks appears.  If no CD is loaded, 
    -- stops flashing and stays lit.

2.  Grasp the recess in the CD compartment door and lift the door open.

3.  Place a 3 or 5 inch CD in the compartment with the label facing up.

4.  Close the door.  The total number of tracks appears on the display.

5.  To remove the CD, open the door, grasp the CD by  it's edges, and
    carefully pull it out.

Playing a CD

1.  Press >|| PLAY/PAUSE to play all the tracks in order, starting with
    Track 1.  The current track number appears on the display.

   Note:  Press >|| PLAY/PAUSE to temporarily stop the CD.  The PAUSE
          indicator lights.  Press >|| PLAY/PAUSE again to resume playing
          the CD.  The PAUSE indicator turns off.

2.  Adjust VOLUME to a comfortable level.

3.  Set TONE to HIGH to emphasize treble sounds or to LOW to emphasize
    bass sounds.

4.  Set SURROUND to ON to turn on the top speakers.

5.  Press STOP to stop playing the CD before all tracks have played.  Wait
    a few seconds for the CD to stop turning, then open the CD compartment
    door and remove the CD.

Automatic Search Music System

The automatic search music system lets you quickly locate the beginning of
any track on the CD, including the track currently playing.

If the CD is playing:

   Press |<< SKIP to return to the beginning of the current track.

   Press |<< SKIP again to skip to the beginning of the previous track.

   Press >>| SKIP to skip to the beginning of the next track.

If the CD is stopped, repeatedly press, or press and hold |<< or >>| SKIP
until the display shows the number of the track you want to play, then
press >|| PLAY/PAUSE.  The CD player starts playing the selected track.

To search backward or forward within a track while the CD is playing,
press and hold either |<< or >>| SKIP.  You hear the track play rapidly
and at a lower volume.  Release the button to resume normal play.

Repeat Play

You can repeat the current track or the entire CD.

To repeat the current track, press REPEAT once during play.  The REPEAT
ONE indicator lights.  The CD player continuously replays the current
track.

To repeat the entire CD, press REPEAT one more time.  Or, if you have not
already selected REPEAT ONE, press REPEAT twice during play.  The REPEAT
ALL indicator lights.  The CD player continuously replays the entire CD.

To cancel the repeat function, press REPEAT until the REPEAT ONE and
REPEAT ALL indicators turn off.

Cassette Player Operation

Playing a Cassette Tape

1.  Set FUNCTION to TAPE.

2.  Press STOP/EJECT to open the cassette compartment door.

3.  Take up any slack in the cassette tape by turning its hub with your
    finger or a pencil.  If you do not remove excess slack, the tape could
    become tangled in the play mechanism.  Avoid touching the tape.

4.  Load the cassette into the compartment with the open edge facing up,
    the side you want to play facing out, and the full reel on the right.

5.  Close the cassette compartment door.

6.  Press < PLAY.  The cassette plays until it reaches the end of the
    side, then it automatically stops.

   Notes:  To temporarily stop play, press || PAUSE.  Press || PAUSE again
           to resume play.

           To rapidly wind the tape forward or backward, press << FAST-F
           or >> REWIND.  The cassette deck automatically stops at the end
           of the tape.

7.  Set SURROUND to ON to turn on the top speakers.

8.  Adjust VOLUME to a comfortable level.

9.  Set TONE to HIGH to enhance the treble sound or to LOW to enhance the
    bass.

10. To manually stop play, press STOP/EJECT.  Press STOP/EJECT again to 
    open the cassette compartment door.

Recording

You can record from the CD player or radio.

CAUTION:  If you try to record on a cassette tape that has had its erase
          protection tabs removed, you cannot press RECORD.  Do not force
          it, as this can damage the mechanism.  See "Preventing 
          Accidental Erasure" in Faxback Doc. # 46493.

Notes:   Tape quality greatly affects the quality of the recording.  For
         low noise, wide, range recordings, use normal-bias tape.

         We recommend regular length (60 or 90 minute) cassette tapes.  We
         do not recommend long-play cassette tapes.  Such as C-120s,
         because they are thin and can easily tangle.

         The system's Automatic Level Control (ALC) automatically adjusts
         the recording level.  VOLUME has no effect on recording.

Recording from the CD Player

1.  Insert a blank cassette tape, or one you want to record over, into the
    cassette compartment.

2.  Set FUNCTION to CD.

3.  Load a CD into the CD compartment.

4.  Press RECORD on the cassette tape deck.  RECORD and <PLAY lock down.
    The cassette deck starts recording.

5.  Press >|| PLAY/PAUSE to play the CD.

   Notes:  To temporarily pause the recording, press || PAUSE on the
           cassette deck.  Press || PAUSE again to resume recording.

           If you also want to pause the CD player, press >|| PLAY/PAUSE.
           Press >|| PLAY/PAUSE again to resume playing the CD.

6.  To stop recording before the tape reaches the end, press || PAUSE
    then STOP/EJECT on the cassette deck.  Press || PAUSE again to
    release it.

7.  To stop the CD player before it automatically stops, press STOP on the
    CD player.

Recording from the Radio

1.  Follow Steps 1-7 under "Radio Operation" above.

2.  Insert a blank cassette tape, or one you want to record over, into the
    cassette compartment.

3.  Press RECORD on the cassette deck.  RECORD and >|| PLAY lock down.  
    The cassette deck starts recording from the radio.

   Notes:   To temporarily pause the recording, press || PAUSE on the
            cassette deck.  Press || PAUSE again to resume recording.

            If you record broadcasts from AM radio, you might hear a low
            volume whistling when you play back the recording.  If this
            occurs, set BEAT CUT to the other position and try again.

4.  To stop recording before the tape reaches the end, press || PAUSE then
    STOP/EJECT on the cassette deck.  Press || PAUSE again to release it.

5.  To turn off the radio, set FUNCTION to TAPE.
