Choosing a Power Source

You can power your SCR-58 with:

Four C batteries (not included).

An AC adapter (not included).

A vehicle's battery power, using a DC adapter (not included).

Using Internal Battery Power

For portable use, you can power your SCR-58 from four C batteries. For
longest life, we recommend alkaline batteries, such as Radio Shack Cat. No.
23-551. If the sound weakens or the cassette tape playing speed slows,
replace the batteries.

Follow these steps to install batteries:

1. Push the tab down and lift off the battery compartment cover.

2. Place four C batteries in the compartment as indicated by the polarity
symbols (+ and -) marked inside the compartment.

NOTE: Place the fourth battery underneath the third battery.

3. Replace the cover.

CAUTIONS: Use only fresh batteries of the required size and type.

Never mix fresh and old batteries, or alkaline and nickel-cadmium batteries.

If you do not plan to use the SCR-58 for a month or more, remove and store
the batteries. Connected, aging batteries might leak chemicals and corrode
or damage electronic circuits.

Using AC Power

You can power the SCR-58 from a standard AC outlet with an AC adapter (not
included), such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 273-1651.

CAUTIONS: You must use an AC adapter that supplies 9 volts and delivers at
least 500 milliamps. Its center tip must be set to negative, and
its plug must correctly fit the SCR-58's 9 VDC jack. The recom-
mended adapter meets the specifications. Using an adapter that
does not meet these specifications could seriously damage the
           SCR-58 or the adapter.

To protect your SCR-58, always plug the adapter into the recorder
before you plug it into an AC outlet. Always unplug the adapter
from the AC outlet before you unplug it from the recorder.

Follow these steps to power the SCR-58 from AC power.

1. Insert the adapter's barrel plug into the SCR-58's 9 VDC jack.

2. Plug the adapter into a standard AC outlet.

NOTE: Connecting the power adapter automatically disconnects the internal
       batteries.

Using Your Vehicle's Battery Power

You can power the SCR-58 from your vehicle's battery with a DC adapter (not
included), such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 14-844D.

CAUTIONS: This recorder is designed for use with vehicles that have a 12
volt, negative ground electrical system. Most vehicles have this
type of electrical system, but if you are unsure about the type
your vehicle has, contact the vehicle dealer. Using the recorder
with a different type of electrical system could damage the
recorder or the vehicle's electrical system.

You must use a DC adapter that supplies (regulated) 9-volts power
and delivers at least 500 milliamps. Its center tip must be set
to negative and its plug must correctly fit the SCR-58's 9 VDC
jack. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications
could seriously damage your recorder or the adapter.

To protect your vehicle's electrical system, always plug the
adapter into the recorder before you plug it into your vehicle's
cigarette-lighter socket. Always unplug the adapter from the
vehicle's cigarette-lighter socket before you unplug it from the
           recorder.

Follow these steps to power your recorder from DC Power.

1. Set the adapter's voltage switch to 9V.

2. Insert the adapter's plug into the radio's 9 VDC jack.

3. Plug the adapter into the vehicle's cigarette-lighter socket.

NOTE: Connecting the power adapter automatically disconnects the internal
       batteries.
