PRO-77 Speaker - Black
(400-2057) Installation Faxback Doc. # 38645

Your PRO 77 5-inch 2-way Metal Cabinet Speaker System uses the same design
that won rave reviews from audio critics for pace-setting small speaker
performance. They are small in size, but not in sound! A high-compliance
woofer accurately tracks signals to provide outstanding bass, while the
dome tweeter produces crisp, detailed highs. Your speakers' careful
acoustic design matches the two dynamic elements with the enclosure and
dampening materials, resulting in amazingly smooth and broad frequency
response.

SPEAKER PLACEMENT

Location and position are vital to your speakers' performance. The ideal
location is on a table or shelf positioned near the corner of a room.
Placing the speakers on shelves attached to a wooden wall (or other
acoustically hard surface) greatly reinforces their sound quality. If
possible, place the front edge of the each speaker flush with the front
edge of the shelf.

We urge you to play a familiar, widerange recording and experiment with
speaker placement until you find the location that provides the best sound
for your needs.

Stereo speaker placement can be tricky. For the best stereo image, the
distance between the speakers should be about equal to the distance from
the main listening point to a point half way between the speakers. If the
distance between the speakers is too great, the sound will not be
balanced, and you won't hear the quality of true stereo imaging. You can
prevent this by angling the speakers slightly in toward the listening
area.

CONNECTIONS

With the speakers placed in their approximate locations, measure the
distance from each speaker to the amplifier. Use speaker wire or ordinary
distances of 25 feet or less. For distances greater than 25 feet, use
heavier 16-gauge wire.

Speaker wire coded with a ridge or stripe on one side makes the connection
process easier. Radio Shack stores sell speaker wire to meet most needs.

Use the ridge or stripe on the wire as a guide to connect the speaker's
negative (-) terminal to the amplifier's corresponding (right or left)
negative terminal. Then connect each speaker's positive terminal to the
amplifier's corresponding (right or left) negative terminal. Then connect
each speaker's positive terminal to the amplifier's corresponding (right
or left) positive (+) terminal.

This procedure is called phasing. Keeping your speakers in proper phase
is essential for maximum bass response and overall performance.

1. Using a wire stripper, remove about 1/4 inch of the insulation from
    the ends of the wire.

2. Push the tab on the left speaker's negative (-) terminal and insert
one of the wire ends. Release the tab.

3. Push the tab on the left speaker's positive (+) terminal and insert
the other wire end. Release the tab.

Repeat this process for the right speaker.

USING RUBBER FEET

Four self-adhesive rubber feet are provided to avoid scratching your
furniture. Remove the paper backing and press the feet onto the bottom of
the speaker.

There are two sizes of rubber feet. Use the thicker ones for the front
(A) and thinner ones for the rear (B).

You can use screws to mount the speakers directly on a wall. Use #10 or
larger screws. Then position the keyhole slot over the screw head and
slide the speaker down until the keyhole slot and screw head lock
together.

If you are mounting the speakers on sheet rock or other thin or unstable
material, Use molly bolts, toggle bolts, woodscrews with plastic sleeves,
or nuts and bolts.

Radio shack stores carry several speaker stands, vehicle mounts, ceiling
mounts, and wallmount brackets designed to be used with these speakers.
Follow the instructions provided with the stands, mounts, or brackets.
