Omnidirectional Dynamic Microphone
(330-1070) Troubleshooting Faxback Doc. # 37533

If you should experience distortion at a sound pressure level of 140 dB,
particularly around 500 Hz, look for the following possibilities.

There should be no real problem with distortion by the microphone and its
physical characteristics, although this type of sound level is not typical
of what this mic was designed for.

The engineers caution that the most likely cause would be distortion in
the next piece of equipment in the audio chain. Most pre-amps are look-
ing for a voltage of some number of millivolts - the typical output of
  microphones.

With this type of sound level, however, the mic could be passing along as
much as 3 volts to the next piece of equipment. It should be pointed out
that if distortion occurs, it is most likely in the pre-amp or the pre-amp
section of the mixer that is the cause.
