PLAYING A CD

For hookup instructions, see Faxback Doc. # 19556, Setting Up.

1.  Press /\ OPEN/CLOSE (direct power-on) and place the disc on the disc
    tray (with the label side up).  Be sure to align the center of the CD
    with the center of the disc tray.

    NOTES:  You can't play 3 inch (8 cm) CDs even with an adaptor for
            single-CDs.

            Place one CD only on the disc tray.  If you place two or three
            CDs and close the disc tray, you will not be able to pull out
            the tray.  (See "Playing multiples discs," Faxback Doc. #
            19553, The CD Player.

2.  Press >||.

    The disc tray closes and the player plays all the tracks once.

TIPS:  If "ALL DISCS" lights up, the player plays other CDs in numerical
       sequence.  To play only one CD, press DISC MODE to select "1 DISC."

       Next time you want to listen to a CD, just press >||.  The player
      turns on automatically and starts playing the CD.

LISTENING TO THE RADIO

For hookup instructions, see Faxback Doc. # 19556, Setting Up.

1.  Press BAND until the band you want appears in the display (direct 
    power-on).

2.  Hold down TUNING+ until the frequency digits begin to change in the
    display.

    The player automatically scans the radio frequencies and stops when
    it finds a clear station.

    If you can't tune in a station, press the button one at a time.

TIPS:  If the FM broadcast is noisy, press PLAY MODE/MONO/ST until "Mono"
       appears in the display and the radio will play in monaural.

       Next time you want to listen to the radio, just press the BAND
       button.  The player turns on automatically and starts playing the
       previous station.

To Improve Broadcast Reception

Reorient the antenna for FM.  Reorient the player itself for AM.

PLAYING A TAPE

For hookup instructions, see Faxback Doc. # 19556, Setup.

1.  Press STOP/EJECT to open the tape compartment and insert a recorded
    tape (With the side you want to play facing up).  Use TYPE I (normal)
    tape only.  Close the compartment.

2.  Press >.

    The player turns on (direct power-on) and starts playing.

TIP:  Next time you want to listen to a tape, just press >.  The player
      turns on automatically and starts playing the tape.

RECORDING ON A TAPE

For hookup instructions, see Faxback Doc. # 19556, Setting Up.

1.  Press STOP/EJECT to open the tape compartment and insert a blank tape
    (with the side you want to record on facing up).  Use TYPE 1 (normal)
    tape only.

2.  Select the program source you want to record.

    To record from the CD player, insert a CD (see above) and press STOP
    PLAYBACK on the CD section.

    To record from the radio, press BAND and tune in the station you want
    (see above.)

3.  Press REC to start recording. (> is depressed automatically.)

TIPS:  Adjusting the volume or the audio emphasis will not affect the
       recording level.

       For the best results, use the AC power source as a power source.

       If the AM program makes a whistling sound after you've pressed REC
       in step 3, set the ISS (Interference Suppress Switch) at the rear to
       the position that most decreases the noise.  Normally set the switch
       to "2."

       To record from discs at the average recording level, press A. AGC
       before starting recording.  Do not press A. AGC during recording.

To erase a recording, proceed as follows:

1.  Disconnect the microphone if connected at the MIX MIC jack.

2.  Turn on the power and then press FUNCTION until "TAPE" appears in the
    display window.

3.  Press REC.
