PREPARE FOR SETUP
1.   Unpack your Printer and accessories.

2.   Remove all packing material from the printer.

CONNECT THE PARALLEL CABLE TO THE PRINTER
1.   Use a parallel cable that supports bidirectional communications
     (IEEE 1284-compatible).

2.   Fasten the metal clips on the printer to the parallel cable.

CONNECT THE PARALLEL CABLE TO THE COMPUTER
1.   Make sure your computer is turned off.

2.   Connected the parallel cable to the 25 pin parallel port on the
     computer.  Make sure you tighten the screws.

PLUG IN YOUR PRINTER
1.   Connect the power supply to the printer.

2.   Plug the power supply into an electrical outlet.

3.   Check the power light on the printer to ensure that it is on.  If it
     is, continue with the next step.  If not, check your connections.

INSTALL THE PRINT CARTRIDGE.
1.   Raise the front cover.  When you raise the front cover, the print
     cartridge moves to the loading position.

2.   Remove the new print cartridge from its packaging.

3.   Remove the sticker and the transparent tape covering the gold area
     on the cartridge.

4.   Insert the cartridge into the printer.

5.   Push back on the top of the cartridge until it snaps securely into
     place.  If the print cartridge moves loosely in the carrier, it is
     not locked into place.  Repeat this step.

6.   Close the front cover.

LOAD PAPER
1.   Slide the paper support pegs on the back of the printer.

2.   Pull the paper support up slightly, then let it slide down, making
     sure both front tabs fit firmly over the top edge of the printer.

3.   Extend the paper tray.

4.   Place up to 100 sheets of plain paper in the sheet feeder.

5.   Insert the paper against the right side of the sheet feeder.

       IMPORTANT: Make sure the top of your paper aligns with the correct
                  paper marks located on top of the paper support.

6.   Squeeze the release tab and the paper guide together and slide the
     paper guide to the edge of the paper.

INSTALL THE PRINTER SOFTWARE
1.   Turn you computer on, and wait for Windows 95/98 to boot up.
     
     IMPORTANT - READ THIS!
     Select CANCEL if a message appears indicating new hardware
     has been found.

     Select Cancel if the UPDATE DEVICE DRIVER WIZARD appears.

NOTE:     If you are prompted to align the print cartridge then the printer
     software is already installed on your PC.  Skip the remaining steps.

2.   Insert the Compaq IJ300 Color Inkjet Printer CD into your CD-ROM
     drive.  The Compaq IJ300 Screen appears.  (It may take a few seconds
     to appear.)*

3.   Click the INSTALL PRINTER SOFTWARE button.

4.   Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation
     of your software and printer.

*Follow these instructions only if the Compaq IJ300 screen does not appear:
1.   From the START menu, choose RUN.

2.   In the OPEN: text box, type the letter of your CD-ROM drive,
     followed by :\SETUP (for example, D:\SETUP), then click OK.

3.   The Compaq IJ300 Screen appears. Click the INSTALL PRINTER SOFTWARE
     button.

4.   Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation
     of your software and printer.
