Lexmark 5700 Color Jetprinter
(260-2379) Paper Types Faxback Doc. # 52078
PAPER TYPES
You can get good print quality on many types of plain paper. Since the
quality of plain paper varies widely, you should test the print quality
before buying large quantities of paper.
The printer also uses a variety of papers including:
Xerographic paper
Bond paper
Dual-purpose paper
Recycled bond paper
Iron-On transfer paper
Greeting card stock
Inkjet Photo Paper
Hagaki
Because all paper varies in physical characteristics, you can receive
mixed results from different packages of paper even though the packages
contain the same type of paper. If you encounter undesirable results,
try the other side of the paper, a different type, or another package
of the same kind of paper.
Do not use the following types of paper with the printer:
Erasable bond paper
Synthetic paper
Thermal paper
Multi-sheet forms and documents
Chemically treated paper (carbonless paper)
Papers printed with a printing process using certain chemicals will
contaminate the paper feed mechanism components (paper with raised,
embossed lettering)
Most papers have a preferred print side indicated on the paper package.
Load the paper so the preferred print side faces you.
The following paper sizes can be used in the automatic feeder and the
manual feeder:
Use paper that meets these specifications in the Automatic Feeder:
Length 127 to 432 mm 5.0 to 17.0 in.
Width 76 to 216 mm 3.0 to 8.5 in.
Weight 60 to 90 g/sqm 16 to 24 lb.
Thickness 0.071 to 0.18 mm 0.0028 to 0.007 in.
Use paper that meets these specifications in the Manual Feeder:
Length 127 to 432 mm 5.0 to 17.0 in.
Width 76 to 228 mm 3.0 to 9.0 in.
Weight 60 to 120 g/sqm 16 to 32 lb.
Thickness 0.071 to 0.18 mm 0.0028 to 0.007 in.

The acceptable dimensions for envelopes loaded in the manual feeder
are:

Weight 60 to 120 g/sqm 16 to 32 lb.
Do not use the following types of envelopes:
Envelopes with windows, holes, perforations, cutouts, or deep embossing
Envelopes with a metal clasp, a string tie, or metal folding bars
Envelopes with peel-off sealing strips
Envelopes with contents enclosed
PHOTO PAPER
The printer supports letter and A4 size photo paper. Use photo paper
designed for an ink jet printer such as Lexmark P/N 1372481 (letter
size) or 1372208 (A4 size). Do not use photo paper designed for copiers
and laser printers, or for pen plotters.
For best results:
Handle only on the edges.
Store unused photo paper in the original packaging.
Do not store the paper in excessively hot or humid environments.
Use the automatic feeder to print on photo paper. (You can print on
either the glossy or the matte side.)
Feed the photo paper one sheet at a time.
Be careful not to touch the printed surface until the ink is dry.
If you are printing several sheets of photo paper at one time, remove
each sheet of paper as it exits the printer and allow it to dry
before stacking.
Cover the printed area with plain paper when storing.
Transparency and glossy film types
The printer supports letter and A4 size transparencies and glossy film.
Use a transparency or glossy film designed for an ink jet printer such
as Lexmark P/N 1402797 (letter size) or 1402798 (A4 size) for
transparencies or Lexmark P/N 1402750 (letter size) or 1372361 (A4
size) for glossy film. Do not use transparencies or glossy film
designed for copiers and laser printers, or for pen plotters.
When handling transparencies and glossy film:
Do not touch the side being printed on.
Store unused transparencies and film in the original packaging.
Do not store transparencies or film in excessively hot or humid
environments.
Transparencies and glossy film take time to dry. Be careful not
to touch the printed surface until the ink is dry.
If you are printing several transparencies or sheets of glossy
film at one time, remove each transparency or sheet of
paper as it exits the printer and allow it to dry before
stacking.
Use the automatic feeder to print on transparencies or glossy
film.
LABELS
The printer supports letter and A4 size label sheets. Use the automatic
feeder or manual feeder to print on labels.
For best results, labels used in the printer should meet the following
requirements:
Do not use label sheets with a slick backing material.
Be sure the adhesive does not come in contact with any part of
the printer.
Use full label sheets. Partially used sheets (with areas exposed
by missing labels) can cause labels to peel off during
printing and can damage the printer.
If the automatic feeder will not feed your labels, try the manual
feeder.
