Choose the manual/specialty media or automatic/normal feeder

  1     Click the application's File menu.

  2     Choose the option that allows you to change printer settings (for
        example, Print, Print Setup, or Printer Setup).

  3     In the dialog box, click the Properties, Options, or Setup button
        (depending on the application).

  4     Click the Paper tab.

  5     From the Paper Source section, choose Manual/Specialty or
        Automatic/Normal.

Choose a paper type

  1     Click the application's File menu.

  2     Choose the option that allows you to change printer settings (for
        example, Print, Print Setup, or Printer Setup).

  3     In the dialog box, click the Properties, Options, or Setup button
        (depending on the application). 

  4     Click the Document/Quality tab.

  5     From the Paper Type list box, choose the paper type you want to
        use.

When you select the paper size on the Paper tab, you can also select the
paper type. For example, letter paper has three types: letter-plain,
letter-coated, and transparency. Once you have chosen the paper size and
type, the printer driver will automatically choose the best print quality
setting.

Choose portrait or landscape page orientation

  1     Click the application's File menu.

  2     Choose the option that allows you to change printer settings (for
        example, Print, Print Setup, or Printer Setup).

  3     In the dialog box, click the Properties, Options, or Setup button
        (depending on the application).

  4     Click the Paper tab.

  5     Choose the orientation you want to use.

The image to the left of your selection reflects the choice you made.

Choose a paper size

  1     Click the application's File menu.

  2     Choose the option that allows you to change printer settings (for
        example, Print, Print Setup, or Printer Setup).

  3     In the dialog box, click the Properties, Options, or Setup button
        (depending on the application).

  4     Click the Paper tab.

  5     From the Paper Size list box, click the paper size you want.

Note: The following paper sizes are unavailable when printing from DOS:

        A6
        Index card
        Baronial
        Envelope 6-3/4 x 3-5/8
        Post card
        Envelope C6
        Custom Sizes
        Hagaki

If you choose a size that is not available, the printer will default to
letter size paper. When you select the paper size, you can also select the
paper type. For example, letter paper has three types: letter-plain,
letter-coated, and transparency. Once you have chosen the paper size and
type, the printer driver will automatically choose the best print quality
setting.

Create a custom paper size

  1     Click the application's File menu.

  2     Choose the option that allows you to change printer settings (for
        example, Print, Print Setup, or Printer Setup).

  3     In the dialog box, click the Properties, Options, or Setup button
        (depending on the application).

  4     Click the Paper tab.

  5     From the Paper Size area, choose Custom. The User Defined Paper
        Size dialog box appears.

  6     Enter the full size (width and height) of the paper. The actual
        printable area is slightly less than the dimensions you enter.

  7     Click OK.

Load banner paper

For best results, follow the steps below to load banner paper and choose
the appropriate options in the printer software.
To load banner paper:

  1     Tear off a maximum of 10 sheets of banner paper.

  2     If necessary, remove the perforated tractor holes along each side
        of the banner paper.

  3     Pull the paper load lever toward you and remove any paper in the
        sheet feeder.

  4     Push back on the paper load lever to close the sheet feeder.

  5     Open the specialty media guide to the upright position as shown.

  6     Adjust paper support for banner printing.

  7     Turn the printer so the back faces you.

  8     Pull down on the base of the paper support until it snaps out of
        place.

  9     Pull the paper support out of the printer.

  10    Turn the paper support around so the banner paper icon faces the
        front of the printer.

  11    Reinsert the paper support tabs into the slots behind the sheet
        feeder until it clicks into place.

  12    Fit the banner support onto the paper support.

  13    Rest the banner paper on the paper support behind the sheet
        feeder.

  14    Insert the leading edge of the first page into the sheet feeder
        until the printer automatically grabs it.

  15    Slide the left paper guide against the left edge of the paper.
 

To choose the appropriate options in the printer software:

  1     From your application's File menu, click the option that allows
        you to change printer settings (for example, Print, Print Setup or
        Printer Setup).

  2     From the dialog box, click Properties, Options, or Setup
        (depending on the application).

  3     Click the Paper tab.

  4     From the Paper Size scroll box, choose the banner paper size you
        are using.

  5     In the Paper Source area, make sure Manual/Specialty Media is
        chosen.

  6     Click OK.

  7     Send the print job.

Note: When you have finished banner printing, return the paper support and
      specialty media guide to their normal positions before printing
      other documents.

Load paper in the sheet feeder

The sheet feeder can hold approximately 30 sheets of paper.

  1     Pull the paper load lever toward you to open the sheet feeder.

  2     Insert paper.

  3     Slide the paper guide against the left edge of the paper.

  4     Push back on the paper load lever to close the sheet feeder.

Load specialty media in the sheet feeder

You must load all types of specialty media one piece at a time. To load
envelopes, postcards, or index cards in the sheet feeder, follow these
steps:

  1     Pull the paper load lever toward you and remove any paper in the
        sheet feeder.

  2     Push back on the paper load lever to close the sheet feeder.

  3     Open the specialty media guide to the upright position as shown.

  4     From the application's File menu, choose the option that allows
        you to change printer settings (for example, Print, Print Setup,
        or Printer Setup).

  5     In the dialog box, click the Properties or Options button.

  6     Click the Paper tab.

  7     Make sure Manual/Specialty Media is chosen as the paper source.

  8     Choose the appropriate paper size setting.

  9     Click OK.

  10    Place one piece of specialty media against the specialty media
        guide in the sheet feeder. Have the side on which you wish to
        print facing you. Load envelopes with the return address in the
        upper right-hand corner.

  11    Slide the left paper guide against the left edge of the media.

  12    Push the media downward until the printer automatically loads it.

  13    Send the job to print.

  14    When you finish printing specialty media, close the specialty
        media guide so it is flush with the back of the printer.
