As stated in the manual, the volume knob and mute control buttons on the
Compaq 1525 & 1725 Monitors are designed to work exclusively with Presario
4500 and 4600 Series PCs.  The volume knob and mute control button DO NOT
work when attached to any other computers, nor do they work when used with
the 260-0401 monitor extension cable.
