LP 1000 (260-2804) Installing Components Faxback Doc. # 4735

The following three stock numbers are consumable items. They are included
with the laser printer, and are available from our Consumer Mail Center as
seperate items.

260-2807 Toner
260-2805 Kit A
OPC Drum, Cleaning unit, Shield plate, and Shield plate cleaner
260-2806 Kit B
Cleaning unit, Shield plate, and Shield plate cleaner.

Some of the components are packed separately. You need to install these
components before using the LP-1000. This chapter explains how to do this.
There are two basic sets of components that you must install--the paper
tray, and the internal components.

In the following description, we refer to the side with the operation panel
as the front side of the LP-1000.

Installing the Paper Tray

Refer to the User's Manual for detailed illustrations.

1. Fastening band 4. Vinyl envelope
2. Front band 5. Adhesive tape
3. Rear pad 6. Spacer

1. Install the paper tray on the right side of the LP-1000. Be sure that
the paper set lever on the side of the tray is in the Down position.

2. Fit the guide rails one the sides of the tray into the plastic slides
near the bottom of the slot on the right side of the LP-1000.

Installing the OPC Magazine

1. Lift the lock lever on the LP-1000's front side, and open it.

2. Remove the plastic packing case from the OPC magazine box, and place it
on a desk, with the side marked UP facing upwards.

Peel the shield plate cleaner from the top of the case, and store it in
a safe place. (Later, you will use it to clean the shield plate.)

3. Pull and detach the upper part of the packing case from the lower part,
by pulling at the two lock points shown in the illustration below. After
opening the case, place a weight on the top half to prevent it from
   closing.

4. Remove the paper cover from the OPC magazine, and then remove the
cleaning blade holder from the case as shown below.

5. Grasp the OPC magazine by the green holders, and remove it from the
packing case. Install it in the LP-1000 with the drum to the right.
Insert the OPC magazine unit into the processing unit case, and push it
   down.

CAUTIONS:

* Do not expose the OPC drum to direct sunlight.
* Do not expose the OPC drum to normal room lighting more than five minutes.
* Do not touch the surface of the OPC drum with your bare hands.

NOTE: If the OPC drum should somehow become detached from the OPC magazine,
insert the drum into the LP-1000. The geared end of the drum will mate with
gears at the rear of the printer. (Be careful no to touch the surface of
the OPC drum.) Then, insert the cleaning unit (the remainder of the OPC
magazine). After the cleaning unit is inserted, be sure that the green lock
levers lock the OPC drum into place (i.e., that the top of each lock lever
is spread apart).

If the OPC drum gets scratched during handling, abnormal print images will
result. If this occurs, replace the OPC magazine.

After installation, push down the holders.

6. Press the OPC counter reset lever.

Installing the Toner Cartridge

CAUTION: Do not turn on the power before loading toner.

1. Remove the pad on the development unit.

2. Remove the attached seal take-up lever of the new toner cartridge. Hold
it horizontally, and shake it back and forth several times.

3. While hold the cartridge upright, align the cartridge pins with the
U-shaped grooves in the development unit.

4. Press and hold the lock lever, and then lay down the toner cartridge.
Release the lock lever to lock the toner cartridge in place.

5. Press the seal take-up lever onto the shaft at the front of the toner
cartridge, and move the lever back and forth to remove the seal from the
   cartridge.

NOTE: Do not press down on the toner cartridge.

6. When most of the seal has been rolled up, a red line appears to show the
end. Continue rolling up the seal until take-up lever movement becomes
stiff. Then, remove the take-up lever from the cartridge.

7. Be sure that the development unit is properly locked into the processing
unit case by the lock lever.

8. Press down on the processing unit case to be sure that it is firmly
   locked into place.

9. Close the LP-1000's top cover. Press down until the front lock lever
   clicks.
