Connect your PDA to your desktop computer or laptop via USB or serial cable in order to synchronize the installation of the DeLorme XMap Handheld Street Atlas USA software. Insert the Install CD into the laptop CD drive, and follow the installation instructions. The DeLorme software should now be on both the laptop and the PDA.
Step 2: Connecting the DigiTraveler™ receiver to a power source
The DigiTraveler receiver can be powered using either 3 "AAA" alkaline batteries or a 6V DC (CLA) car cigarette lighter adapter (RadioShack cat. # 273-1811) with a size "B" adaptaplug (RadioShack cat. # 273-1705) attached. To install the batteries, slide off the battery cover and place the batteries into the compartment matching up the "+" and "-" symbols. All three batteries are placed in the same direction. To use the CLA, plug the cigarette lighter adapter into the 6V DC jack at the back of the receiver. Plug the other end into a power source.
Step 3: Connecting the PDA to the DigiTraveler™ receiver
Remove the PDA from the desktop computer or laptop connection cable. Plug one end of the correct DigiTraveler™ receiver cable into the PDA port, and plug the other end of the cable into the receiver's cable port.
Step 4: Opening the DeLorme XMap software
On the PDA, open the DeLorme XMap software by selecting it from the PDA applications menu.
Step 5: Opening the GPS settings option
Tap on the GPS "tab" to open the SETTINGS option. Tap on the SETTINGS option.
Step 6: Selecting the correct GPS settings
Set the DEVICE setting to "RadioShack DigiTraveler", and then set the STATE setting to the 2 digit letter abbreviation of the state you are in, and set the COMPORT setting to Com 1. The COORDS box will automatically default to the location you entered (state digits). Tap OK.
Step 7: Initializing the DigiTraveler™ receiver
Tap the GPS "tab", and tap on either the CONNECT option or the CONNECT icon the right of the GPS "tab" to initialize the DigiTraveler™ receiver.
Step 8: Checking the receiver and the GPS signal
The green light on the receiver should now be lit and the PDA screen should read "ACQUIRING".
